Social-media expert Jason Falls talks about an easy approach for testing waters on Twitter and Facebook. Social media is often too "me focused" he says.

"People aren't interested in your catalog, they're interested in your expertise," says Falls, who is CEO of Louisville, Ky.-based Social Media Explorer, a social media marketing, digital marketing and public relations consulting service. "They look to you as an industry resource. And then when they're ready to buy, you have clear calls to action on your blog or in your twitter stream that say, 'Hey, if you're interested in purchasing something, here's a link to go purchase it.' "
