There are plenty of phrases that could be used to describe Steve Jobs, but "warm and fuzzy" isn't one of them. In fact, he had a reputation for being kind of a jerk.
And yet Jobs is widely considered one of the great leaders of our time, an innovator who redefined personal technology and built the empire that is Apple.
How did he get to the top without being, well, nice? In addition to having laser-sharp vision, Jobs, like other business leaders, had a knack for being a "master connector," says Jacqueline Whitmore, etiquette coach and founder of The Protocol School of Palm Beach. Master connectors are resourceful and efficient and have a wide network of people they can rely on.
"If they need something they know who to call. They are great at recommending people," she says.
