Remembering names can be hard, particularly at networking events where you might meet a slew of new people all at once. But it's an important skill and one that can be refined with a few simple tricks.
The easiest and most effective way to avoid an embarrassing name fail later is to repeat, repeat, repeat. Say the person's name as soon as you've met him or her and repeat it a few times throughout your conversation, says Jacqueline Whitmore, etiquette coach and founder of The Protocol School of Palm Beach.
If someone's name is difficult to pronounce or you didn't quite hear it the first time, don't be afraid to ask again. "In addition to gaining clarity, the extra effort will speak to your attention to detail," Whitmore says.
