And the Winners Are…

(Business News, Events and Resources)

In June,  we told you about IKEA's "Small Business, Big Dreams: Furnished by IKEA" online video contest. The prize-winning small businesses and the results of their makeovers were unveiled this weekend. The contest called for videos from small-business owners describing why their Main Street businesses deserved a design makeover. Lansing, Michigan's Old Town district was victorious, earning 10 businesses a new and improved look, compliments of IKEA. The winning businesses are sharing a $50,000 makeover with IKEA furnishings and business solutions, in addition to expert design consultation. Over the last few months, IKEA designers met with the stores to assess their space and determine which products would suit them best. For example, Old Town's Head Room Salon was looking for a way to better organize their break room. IKEA designers brought in AKURUM cabinets to create employee lockers, helping eliminate clutter in the room.

To meet the Old Town district businesses, go to IKEA BUSINESS, an online network connecting business owners across the U.S.

Internet Ad Growth Expected

(Business Trends, Marketing)

According to  a MediaPost Publications article, internet advertising is skyrocketing. In fact, Yankee Group predicts that advertising will more than double from $21.7 billion last year to $50.3 billion in 2011. Currently, the research firm estimates that the internet is responsible for about 20 percent of overall media consumption, but only 7.5 percent of ad budgets.

The group forecasts increasing investments in new online media formats like video, gaming and virtual worlds. Yankee recommends that advertisers double online advertising budgets each year to take advantage of video and mobile ad opportunities. "The reality is it takes time, and this market is just about reaching adolescence now," said Daniel Taylor, senior analyst at Yankee Group.
