The Next Generation of Slang

(Business Trends, Marketing)

Do you enjoy flossin' by subwoofing in your presidential tint ride? If you can understand what I just asked, chances are you're under the age of 25 or very in touch with teens and tweens. If, however, you're clueless, you should check out this quick modern-slang reference guide from The Boston Globe. They assembled the top slang lingo from UrbanDictionary.com and offered definitions of each word. For example, "flossin'" refers to showing off, "subwoofing" is when you sit in your car and blast your stereo system and "presidential tint" describes a car with darkly tinted windows. If your company deals with any consumers under the age of 30, it might be wise to brush up on the phrases and words on UrbanDictionary. You wouldn't want teens to think you're a buster (phony person).

EBay Launches Social Networking Site

(Business News, E-Commerce)

To entice customers to stick with eBay and not turn to rivals Amazon.com and Overstock.com, the world's largest online auction is unveiling its own social networking site. The new "neighborhoods" will move away from the text-based forums and encourage community members to post photos, product reviews and tips. "The idea is this will provide more 'stickness' so a user will come back more often, spend more time there and will more likely purchase items," said Karsten Weide of research firm IDC.

This year, eBay also plans to roll out other customer-friendly features, including "One Click Bid," which will help buyers during the final 15 minutes of an auction, and will work on speeding up its checkout process.

B of A Unveils Small-Biz Community

(Business News, HR and Management)

Look to your peers and industry experts for business advice on Bank of America's new Small Business Online Community. Bank of America says it's the first financial institution to develop an online community for small-business owners. And you don't have to be a B of A customer to enjoy the perks of the free site. The community includes a forums section where entrepreneurs can receive feedback on any problems they're experiencing. "By listening to the needs of our customers we created a user-driven site that provides 24/7 access to the tools and resources small-business owners require for their businesses," said Lance Drummond, eCommerce/ATM executive at Bank of America.
