Black Friday Shoppers Do Their Homework

(Business News, Marketing)

If you're planning to advertise to eager Black Friday shoppers, this article from eMarketer urges you to go online. Last year, the use of Black Friday websites skyrocketed as after-Thanksgiving shoppers sought the advanced copies of retail circulars published by sites like Black Friday Ads. Thanks to the additional information they're consuming, Maritz Research found that Black Friday shoppers will be spending about $160 more than the average consumer this holiday season. "It's no secret that Black Friday shoppers are looking for discounts, and retailers have already started slashing prices--earlier than ever before," said Gloria Park Bartolone, vice president at Maritz.

Watch Your Office--From Anywhere

(HR and Management, Tech)

Ever wished you could be in five places at once? AT&T's new Remote Monitor program can help you keep an eye on office activities at any time of day, from anywhere you choose. "It's a unique and affordable option for a small business that wants to keep in touch with various locations," says Steve Loop, executive director for business development at AT&T. The new program will allow small-business owners to set up adjustable cameras, door sensors and other monitoring devices in up to five different locations across the U.S. The owner can view the images in real time, but all images are also recorded on digital video and can be viewed for 30 days.

Aside from a monthly monitoring charge ranging from $9.95 to $39.95, depending on the number of locations, a fixed-camera starter kit for one location sells for $199, or $349 for multiple cameras. AT&T says the Remote Monitor program isn't a substitute for security, though it can detect break-ins.
