Time's Right for Trendy Hotels

Ordinary hotels and motels are yesterday's news. What's hot right now? Smaller, hipper properties known as boutique hotels are popping up all over the country--and this is just the beginning. The latest trend in the world of hotels is to focus on a younger, trendier clientele made up of Gen X and Yers, and even young boomers. Large chains like Starwood and Marriot are getting in on the trend by launching hip brands to capture the younger traveler. And it's about time. According to Smith Travel Research, the number of boutique hotel rooms in the country has increased by more than 15.3 percent since 2001.
