Declare Fridays E-Mail Free

If your e-mail inbox is starting to give you anxiety, you may want to consider picking up on a new trend spreading through offices across the country. It's called "Zero E-mail Fridays," and it's already being practiced by chipmaker Intel. But that doesn't mean all e-mail is forbidden; employees are simply encouraged to phone each other or meet face-to-face instead. In a company blog post, Intel principle engineer Nathan Seldes says the goal of the program is to create more direct, free-flowing communication.

E-mail overload is a worldwide occurrence. According to researcher IDC, about 39.7 billion person-to-person e-mails are sent worldwide each day. It's causing some people, including prominent tech bloggers Jeff Nolan and Vanessa Fox, to declare "e-mail bankruptcy" by archiving their in-box and starting fresh.
