Marketing Trends for 2008

It's that time again--time for reflections on 2007 and predictions for the year ahead. Advertising Age has identified their top nine marketing trends to watch for in 2008, in addition to 10 micro-trends they say will affect Americans this upcoming year. The article says 2008 will be all about the economy and politics. With high fuel prices and tight credit, marketers will likely have a tough time as consumers curtail spending. However, political ad spending will help make up for "sluggish brand-marketing investments." Other trends include the power of strategic alignment, getting serious about accountability and media going digital.

As for micro-trends, watch out for retirees who continue working, sun haters advocating sun-safe clothing and permanent sunscreen, and more online relationships turning into marriages.
