Northern Arizona University is a fully accredited, public, four-year institution with approximately 13,989 full and part-time undergraduate students on its main campus. Founded in 1899, the university is committed to undergraduate education in a friendly campus atmosphere with close student-faculty relationships through classroom teaching of the highest quality and faculty guidance for each student. The University is comprised of the Colleges of Arts and Letters, W.A. Franke College of Business, Education, Engineering, Forestry and Natural Sciences, and Health and Human Services. 93 undergraduate, 46 master's, 1 professional and 8 doctoral degrees are offered in numerous interdisciplinary and pre-professional majors. With a commitment to fostering a culture of diversity, we offer a wealth of student support services, academic programs, clubs and organizations, and community agencies designed to help all incoming students feel welcome. The student body represents 65 countries, 58 Native American tribes, and all 50 states. Fifty percent of undergraduate students live in 18 campus communities and 226 family apartments on the university's residential campus. Of the 13,989 undergraduates enrolled in fall 2008, 37 percent are men and 64 percent are women. The Gateway Student Success Center provides comprehensive advising and career counseling to help students get started on the right path. At the center, students will learn about required courses, student services, and academic policies and they'll receive individual career counseling that can guide them toward a rewarding career. School Says - Student Body
Each student is a member of the Associated Students of Northern Arizona University (ASNAU), which represents the students' interests in all matters that affect them. Other student governing groups are the Associated Students for Women's Issues, Association of University Residence Halls, Pan-Hellenic Council, and Inter-Fraternity Council. More than 45 percent of the students belong to one or more of the 145 student groups and organizations.

School Says - Academics
A four-year baccalaureate degree program requires the successful completion of a minimum of 120 semester hours of course work, including 35 hours of liberal studies courses designed to help students cultivate their abilities to recognize significant problems and to define, analyze, and defend solutions in varied contexts. Students may combine a major field with one or more minors, take two majors or an extended major, or select merged major programs. The honors program provides special courses and seminars and offers superior students opportunities for independent study and research. A three-year bachelor's degree program offers intellectual and academic challenges for well-prepared and motivated students and allows them to take the fast track to graduation and graduate programs.

Arizona Residents: New freshmen are offered admission if they have a high school cumulative GPA* of 3.0 or better (on a 4.0 scale), or a minimum ACT composite score of 22, or a combined math and critical reading only score of 1040 on the SAT, or top 25 percent class rank and have no deficiencies in following high school course requirements: 4 years of English, 4 years of math, including Algebra I & II, Geometry, and any advanced math course for which Algebra II is a prerequisite, 3 years of laboratory science - one in three of the four areas of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Earth Science, 2 years of social studies - one year must be American History, 2 years of one foreign language, and 1 year of Fine Arts. New freshmen are considered for admission if they have a cumulative high school GPA* between 2.5 and 2.99 (on a 4.0 scale), or top 50 percent class rank and have no more than one deficiency in any two of the two subject areas in the high school course requirements listed above. Transfer students who have earned fewer than 12 transferable academic semester credits must meet the same criteria as new freshmen. Transfer students are offered admission if they have a 2.00 or higher GPA (on a 4.0 scale), in at least 24 transferable college credits and have no more than one deficiency in any two subject areas in the following required college preparatory courses: 4 years of college preparatory English, 4 years of Math, including Algebra I & II, Geometry, and any advanced math course for which Algebra II is a prerequisite, 3 years of laboratory science - one in three of the four areas of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Earth Science, 2 years of social science - one year must be American History, 2 years of one foreign language, and 1 year of Fine Arts. * Academic GPA is calculated using only the 16 required college preparatory courses listed above. Transfer students will be offered admission if they have a 2.50 or higher GPA (on a 4.0 scale) in at least 24 transferable college credits and if they have completed all the required college preparatory courses listed above. or have completed an associate's degree and/or the AGEC with a 2.0 GPA or higher (on a 4.0 scale). Non-Residents: New freshman students will be offered admission if the have a 3.0 or higher high school GPA* (on a 4.0 scale), or a 24 ACT score or a combined math and critical reading score of 1110 on the SAT, or a top 25 percent class rank and have no deficiencies in the required college preparatory courses listed above. Transfer students will be offered admission if they have a 2.50 or higher GPA (on a 4.0 scale) in at least 24 transferable college credits and if they have completed all the required college preparatory courses listed above or have completed an associate's degree, the AGEC, or the California IGETC with a 2.5 GPA or higher (on a 4.0 scale). School Says - Campus Life
The 730-acre campus is located in Flagstaff, a community with 61,000 residents, located at an elevation of 7,000 feet, just south of the 12,600-foot-high San Francisco Peaks. The university is at the junction of Interstate Highways 40 and 17. The varied land of mountains, gorges, forests, and lakes provides natural classrooms and laboratories for research and recreation.

School Says - Cost Aid
For 2008-09, charges for an academic year of two semesters for an in-state student are tuition and fees, $5,450, and average board and room, $6,980. Books and supplies average $800. Total estimated cost for Arizona residents is $13,230 per academic year. Out-of-state tuition and fees are $16,548, for an academic-year cost of $24,328, not including travel or personal expenses, which vary for each student. All costs are subject to change by the Arizona Board of Regents. The amount of financial aid awarded to a student is based upon the student's need level, as computed from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Scholarships are awarded on the basis of a student's demonstration of academic excellence and/or participation in various university activities. More than $110 million is available for loans, scholarships, grants, veterans' benefits, and work-study programs. About 67 percent of students receive some form of financial aid. Along with grants, loans, and scholarships, on- and off-campus employment is available to help students meet financial obligations. More than 4,500 students are currently employed in a variety of campus jobs.
