Embry-RiddleÂ's Master of Science in Safety Science (MSSS) degree program is designed to provide the safety and aviation professional with an experiential and practical educational experience that will enhance the practice of occupational health and safety. This degree offers occupational health and safety professionals the advanced education and credentials they need to excel in the practice of safety in aviation and aerospace, as well as other industries. The MSSS program emphasizes the close working relationship and growing interdependence of humans and their machines. In particular, the program emphasizes such areas as industrial hygiene and environmental protection, ergonomics and human factors, occupational safety, and quantitative methods. Program graduates will be professionals who are skilled in providing safety management expertise and who can provide leadership and guidance in compliance issues involving EPA, OSHA, DOD, FAA, NIOSH, and DOE, as well as state health, hygiene, and workplace standards.

Courses in the M.S.S.S. program emphasize the close working relationship and growing interdependence of humans and their machines. In particular, the program emphasizes such areas as industrial hygiene and environmental protection, ergonomics and human factors, occupational safety, and quantitative methods.The M.S.S.S. program consists of 36 credit hours of course work The program provides the opportunity not only to explore the theoretical side of OSH but also to experience the hands-on and an pragmatic discipline that modern occupational health and safety has become. The goal is to provide M.S.S.S. graduates with the highest level of familiarization with all of the various regulatory and social implications of safety and how those affect the way people will do their jobs in the future. The program exposes students not only to the theoretical side of safety science, but also to its experiential side, to see how it shapes job functions and procedures. A program graduate has the knowledge necessary to sit for the National Professional Certification Examinations in Safety (CSP), Industrial Hygiene (CIH), and/or Ergonomics (CPE). A program graduate has the technical skills and initiative needed both to solve workplace problems that involve occupational safety and health and to address compliance issues created by that state and federal agencies that regulate occupational safety and health.Facilities/Labs used exclusively by the MSSS program: Robertson Crash laboratory: offers students the opportunity to conduct hands-on field investigation of selected aircraft accident scenarios. Safety Science Laboratory in Occupational Ergonomics and Industrial Hygiene: offers students hands-on instruction with equipment specialized in occupational health and safety. Campus Facilities used by all: High-tech facilities include the King Engineering and Technology Center; the Robertson Aviation Safety Center, which is dedicated to the study of human factors, aircraft accident investigation, and aviation safety; and the Robertson Flight Simulation Center. New campus facilities include the Academic Complex, the Udvar-Hazy Library & Learning Center, and the Aerospace Experimentation and Fabrication Building.

Admission is open to all qualified applicants, without regard to race, gender, creed, color, national origin, age, handicap, or religion. Embry-Riddle is authorized under federal laws to enroll nonimmigrant alien students. We recommend that you apply early for admission to Embry-Riddle.
