Students Say - Academics
The Carroll School of Management at Boston College enjoys a "great reputation with industry for producing graduates who can immediately produce" as well as a "strong reputation in finance" and several other disciplines. Add to the mix a "huge resource in our alumni network: BC alums are always eager to help fellow Eagles," and you understand why so many students here describe this as an "amazing program."
BC's marquee discipline is finance, but students are adamant that "BC is as strong a marketing school as it is a finance school" and that the school offers "a good marketing curriculum." Also, according to at least one student, "A hidden gem is Boston College's organizational studies focus. Holding many highly touted organizational behavior and organizational development professors, BC offers the opportunity for MBA students to take PhD-level classes in organization studies during the second year. The high quality of professors is recognized in the academic and business community." Throughout the MBA program, BC implements "an experiential curriculum." One student writes, "Not only does BC offer the MBA consulting project but also a business plan project during the second year and several investment management opportunities. It is extremely valuable to combine these opportunities with a traditional classroom education to provide an overall world-class experience." BC offers specializations in asset management, change leadership, competitive service delivery, corporate finance, entrepreneurial management, financial reporting and controls, global management, marketing informatics, and product and brand management. Students may also design their own fields of specialization.
BC "does a good job at teaching the hard technical skills as well as soft skills like communication and leadership." Prospective students should be aware that "the program has gone through some administrative changes in the past few years" and that "the program is changing," making it "feel a bit like an experiment right now." Students report that "the school has recently taken great effort to expand the curriculum and opportunities available to students, making it increasing more relevant to current business issues," and that the curriculum was completely overhauled recently. Students remain confident that, regardless of the changes, "BC is a school that is climbing in the rankings-small enough to have amazing faculty interaction-and will prepare me well for my intended career."

Students Say - Admissions
Applicants to the MBA program at Boston College must submit the following materials to the school: a completed application; a current resume and a separate employment history; two personal essays (students may submit a third optional essay); two letters of recommendation, an official transcript from each degree-granting undergraduate and graduate program attended; and an official GMAT score report. International applicants who attended a non-English language institution must have their transcripts translated and interpreted by a professional service. International students whose first language is not English must submit an official TOEFL score report unless they received their undergraduate degrees from an institution at which the language of instruction is English. BC strongly encourages applicants to apply online.

Students Say - Campus Life
Life in the graduate management program at BC is "the best." One student explains, "BC is a very tight-knit community, and students spend a lot of time together both inside and outside of the classroom. Whether it's working in teams as part of the Diane Weiss Consulting Competition or having drinks at the weekly 'Thirsty Thursday' get-togethers, BC students form relationships that will last forever." Students remind us "not to forget the football games and the tailgate events organized by the GMA (Graduate Management Association)," or that "the strong nationally ranked athletics programs in football, basketball, and hockey create a wonderful bonding experience for students." One student sums up, "If you don't want to know your classmates, mingle with alumni, and study hard, Boston College is not the place for you."
Students also point out that "for such a small school there are a lot of clubs and activities for MBA students to partake in. Almost everyone is involved in some sort of activity, and many people belong to more than one club or organization," especially as students move through the program; first year "is hectic" enough that sometimes "School is the only thing that you seem to have time for," because "The academic workload is substantial. Fortunately, the camaraderie among students and the teamwork that takes place makes the experience worthwhile."

Students Say - Careers
BC's Office of Career Strategies "is unique in the time and effort spent working with every single student. We meet regularly with our career counselors. They are constantly working to coordinate events and seek increasingly more job opportunity for graduate management students." Still, some here complain that "on-campus recruiting is disappointing in terms of quality of employer and intern positions available" and that "there is little effort made to place students outside the Boston area." Fortunately, the alumni network is a "huge resource." One MBA explains, "Many of the big consulting or investment banking firms don't recruit on campus, but we have plenty of alumni at those firms. It's really up to the students to make the connections and ask for a lead."
Employers who most frequently hire BC MBAs include: Liberty Mutual, Staples, EMC Corporation, Boston Scientific Corporation, Fidelity Investments, Strategic Pricing Group, Gillette, Merrill Lynch, State Street Global Markets, UBS Warburg, and Wellington Management.
