School Says - Academics
The MBA program has three parts: the foundation; the advanced program, or core courses; and the area of concentration. The foundation and advanced programs focus on the fundamentals of business operation and management techniques, providing a general, but critical, knowledge of business functions. The concentration component of the MBA allows students to select an area of interest from eight different concentrations or select a general course of study. The general MBA is also offered as a 12-month Executive MBA, designed for working managers with at least five years of management experience. This program is a cohort program, which means that a carefully selected group of students begins the program together, takes the same courses, and shares the same experiences. The MBA degree is broad and inclusive. More specialized options are the Master of Science (MS) degrees. The goal of these degrees is to provide the students with a depth of expertise within their particular fields of specialization. These professional degree programs focus on the systems, processes, and administrative concerns relevant to the student's area of specialization. The MS degree is often referred to as a depth degree because all of the courses are in the student's field of study. One of the features of the GGU graduate business program is the opportunity to choose from several areas of specialization either in the MBA program or in an MS degree program. Students can choose to specialize in accounting, finance, human resource management, information technology, international business, management, marketing or operations management A general course of study is also available. Another important feature is CyberCampus, the University's online program. Students at GGU can choose to complete an entire degree online from anywhere in the world or complement online classes with in-person classes. CyberCampus combines convenience with academic rigor in a highly interactive learning process. Integral to the program is the hands-on, practical application of theoretical knowledge. The faculty is composed of teacher-practitioners and full-time professors. All members of the faculty have practiced in their fields and a significant number of adjunct faculty members bring current business trends and information directly from their work environments into the classroom. This creates a dynamic and uncommon teaching partnership. In the rapidly changing business environment of today and tomorrow, some things will remain constant. Success continues to depend upon students' ability to quickly and accurately analyze the market and respond to fluctuations. Success depends upon their ability to recognize and seize opportunities. Everything GGU teaches is designed to impart to students these critical tools. At GGU, global perspectives are always emphasized. The curriculum, frequently updated to reflect changing situations in the global marketplace, includes an increasing focus on international business and multinational companies. The University's international reputation brings many faculty members and students from other countries to its campuses. At the Ageno School, students learn to work effectively in the global environment. The laboratory is the student's classroom, where working professionals bring the global strategies they encounter directly into class discussions. Students learn how to work in culturally diverse groups through team-based class projects. The skills and sensitivity learned in an internationally focused university environment enhance not only the business worldview and acumen, but also everyday life. The Ageno School of Business curriculum is continuously updated by using feedback from students, alumni, and the business community. Advisory boards composed of corporate and industry executives provide valuable input in each management discipline that helps keep the curriculum current. Since GGU primarily serves working adult students, classrooms become a network of professionals where learning is applied to day-to-day problems encountered in the workplace, and classmates become lifelong career contacts. Faculty members, most of whom come from the business community, also become excellent sources of career advice.
