Students Say - Academics
The John F. Welch College of Business at Sacred Heart University "has a great reputation" and is making "strides . . . to make it one of the best business schools" in the area. SHU has built its MBA program on the back of its "amazing" undergraduate business program, reproducing the "small class size and personal attention" that mark the undergrad experience here. Students believe this combination leads to "a successful graduate experience as well." "As an undergraduate at Sacred Heart University, I was impressed with the quality of education," relates one of the BA/MBA students. "The professors are highly educated individuals who apply real-world material to the subject matter. In addition, the faculty is highly focused on teaching each individual student and does not consider the students only numbers."
The Welch school offers a number of MBA options. BA/MBA students can complete both their undergraduate and graduate degrees in business in 5 years. An MBA for liberal arts majors allows nonbusiness majors to complete their BA and MBA in 6 years' time. A part-time evening program serves area professionals. The school also offers MBA studies overseas at its campus in Luxembourg. Students on the Fairfield campus may pursue concentrations in accounting, finance, and general management; on the Luxembourg campus, concentrations in finance and general management are available. Students report that "course offerings in the areas of international business, accounting, finance, and marketing show that the curriculum taught at our business school reflects the changing nature of business in the world. I think the school is well equipped to develop MBAs for the twenty-first century, where doing business across borders and cultures is going to be the deciding factor for success of future enterprises."
Students are also bullish on the school's future, praising the "dedication to growth, which can be seen in the recent AACSB accreditation and naming ceremony with Jack Welch."

Students Say - Admissions
Applicants to the MBA program at SHU's Welch College of Business must submit the following materials: a completed application form; official transcripts from all undergraduate institutions attended; a personal statement of career and academic goals; two letters of recommendation; a current professional resume; and an official GMAT score report. International applicants, including applicants to the MBA program in Luxembourg, must submit transcripts in English; foreign language transcripts must be translated and analyzed by an approved professional service. Applicants whose first language is not English (except those with a degree from an English-language institution) must submit an official score report for the TOEFL. Students should anticipate at least a 3-month wait in the issuance of student visas for the Luxembourg program. The Luxembourg program runs approximately nine 6-week sessions per year; students may apply for admission and begin the program during any session. The Fairfield campus operates on a trimester calendar.

Students Say - Campus Life
Students find plenty to do, telling us that "there are many activities for students to participate in" along with "clubs such as Graduate Counsel, Commuter Counsel, cultural clubs, business-related clubs (such as Students in Free Enterprise), and much more." One full-time student adds, "There are plenty of events such as committee meetings, alumni events, and public speaking events that students can attend." Best of all, according to some, is that "professors participate in extracurricular activities along with students and provide mentoring in an informal setting." Students on the Luxembourg campus "all work 40-plus hours a week," darting on campus only "for evening and Saturday courses." On the Fairfield campus, students "are mostly from Fairfield and New Haven counties, but some of them drive all the way from New York State." Students tell us that their classmates challenge them "to work harder, especially when you work in groups, because you want to do your part."

Students Say - Careers
SHU's Office of Career Development offers a range of services to MBA students. Staff provides assistance in resume creation and critique, conducts seminars in interview skills, maintains online job postings, and organizes on-campus job fairs and interview sessions. Career Development recently hired a full-time Assistant Director whose primary focus is on MBA student internships and job placement. During the 2008-2009 school year, 105 employers attended the annual career fair and 19 employers interviewed on campus, including PricewaterhouseCoopers, General Electric, Target, Ernst & Young, Sikorsky, KPMG, and Legg Mason.
