Best Business Schools (Northeast)
Students Say - Academics
Fairleigh Dickinson's MBA programs are suited to students with well-defined career goals. Attracting a largely part-time student population, this private university offers nine different MBA specializations, each focused on a specific business area. Depending on their interests, students can pursue an MBA in accounting, entrepreneurship studies, finance, information systems, international business, marketing, management, pharmaceutical management, and personalized study. In addition, Fairleigh Dickinson offers a joint MBA/master's program in Management/Corporate and Organizational Communications, as well as a full-time Global MBA, with a focus on international business. Many students specifically mention that, "The Entrepreneurial Studies program is the greatest strength," of the MBA offerings, providing a "truly a different approach while keeping within a traditional MBA." In addition, the school's international focus is incorporated into the traditional MBA programs. As students explain, "FDU has a strong focus on global learning, which is very important in doing business today," and the school offers "a lot of international exchange and study-abroad programs." Despite the fact that Fairleigh Dickinson offers an impressive range of courses and specializations, classes are "small and personal." As a result, students get "very strong attention" from their professors and develop a "network of professional contacts through group work in class." When it comes to the faculty, Fairleigh Dickinson students say their professors' "emotional investment in each class is remarkable. This generates passion for learning which inspires students who wish to succeed in business to perform well." A student details, "Professors are very knowledgeable, easy to approach, take time to answer any queries you may have, and drive you to achieve perfection." Combining classroom smarts with real-world experience, "The professors are extremely dynamic and are in most cases active in business, which seems to give an up-to-the-minute explanation of world events and changing landscapes." In fact, some feel, "The best professors are actually the adjuncts that can offer real-world scenarios and provide classes with discussion heavy topics." That said, "Professors at FDU tend to adjust their academic demands to students who are willing to learn. Akeen, hardworking student will be given additional challenging assignments in order to meet the grade, while students struggling to meet the requirements of passing the grade would be given assistance by the professor up to a point. The more you challenge the professors, the more they will challenge you." Like the school's student-friendly professors, the "administrators are always eager and willing to help," and the school runs without a hitch. There is a "seamless organization of administrative facilities," and student support services are all in place. A current student attests, "My advisor makes life bearable for me. She is always there to help when the going gets tough." Additionally, Fairleigh Dickinson is very convenient for working students. The school's two New Jersey campuses both hold classes in the evenings, as well as accelerated classes on Saturdays. As most are juggling professional and education pursuits, students say they really "appreciate the Saturday program because it allows them to balance work, school, and life."

Students Say - Admissions
Applicants to the FDU MBA program must apply to a specific campus; after being admitted, students are permitted to register for classes at either campus. Applications are processed on a rolling basis, with the exception of a few of specialized programs. All applications must include official transcripts for all academic work completed after high school, an official GMAT score report, and a completed application form. Certain programs also require interviews and letters of recommendation; check with the school to learn whether your desired program is included. Students who have not completed all prerequisite courses for the MBA may be admitted conditionally; they may enroll in undergraduate business classes on a nondegree basis in order to qualify for the MBA program. International students whose native language is not English and who have not completed undergraduate degrees in an English-language institution must take the TOEFL and achieve a satisfactory score.

Students Say - Campus Life
Attracting "ambitious" working professionals from across New Jersey, Fairleigh Dickinson students are "very friendly, intelligent, [and] hard-working." An asset in the classroom, "Fellow students are generally professionals in various aspects of business (from pharmacy to accounting) and have great insight and personal experiences to offer in class." Acurrent student elaborates, "The students are very motivated to achieve within the MBA program and within the corporate world. All of my group project experiences have made this clear." Overall, "The community is very diverse," yet students manage to build relationships through academic projects, as well as through a "mix of social events and business events" on campus. In fact, the "school is small so, if you are interested, you can really get to know everyone and have lots of fun." Fairleigh Dickinson's business school is located on two separate New Jersey campuses: the College at Florham in Madison and the Metropolitan Campus in Teaneck. At Teaneck, students mention that the "campus could use some aesthetic improvements and renovations." At Madison, however, the "campus is beautiful," and MBA students can de-stress at the school's "great gym, pool, and other facilities for physical fitness and recreation." Madison students also appreciate the school's "great location" in a "great town with lots to do."

Students Say - Careers
The Career Development Center at Fairleigh Dickinson University offers a variety of recruiting and career services to both undergraduate and graduate students, including online job boards, resume critiques, and career workshops. The Career Development Center also hosts school-wide career fairs on both New Jersey campuses, attracting employers such as Bloomberg, Colgate-Palmolive, IBM, ERNST & Young, and Novartis. While some recruiting services are focused specifically on graduate students, there are no dedicated career services for the MBA program. Many students plan to keep their current job after graduation, but others would like to see the program offer more professional assistance. Specifically, students feel the business school could encourage "More interaction among business school classmates and alumni to build strong business network."
