School Says - General Information
Located in New York City, the center of global business, Fordham Business combines academic rigor with program flexibility and business experience, empowering our students to succeed by developing a unique portfolio of career assets. Succeeding in the new world of business requires approaching your MBA the same way you approach your financial investments. In an unpredictable environment Ââ€" to maximize return and minimize risk Ââ€" you want to take a portfolio approach. You invest in a range of career assets, falling into three categories: knowledge, experience, and networks. And then you need to learn how to manage them. At Fordham, your Career and Academic Advisors help you focus your career goals through one-on-one assessment and advice. They also give you the opportunity to meet with experienced alumni to discuss job functions and industries related to your skills and interests. To increase your success, they encourage you to think about both short- and long-term goals to develop career options. Once you define your goals, your Career and Academic Advisors work with you to develop a plan to meet them. You'll look at ways to leverage your current assets. You'll identify gaps you need to fill with new investments in knowledge, experience, and networks. Then you'll develop an investment plan based on short-term and long-term strategies. In the short-term, the goal is to differentiate yourself from the many others seeking the job you want. In the long-term, you want your portfolio of career assets to be diversified enough to keep your opportunities open and strong in a constantly shifting future. This ensures maximum Return On Investment (ROI) over your entire career. Finally, we help you map out a concrete program for you to acquire the knowledge, experience, and network assets you need to implement your strategic plan. To implement your investment plan, we provide you with the resources and flexibility to acquire and combine a wide range of knowledge, experience, and network assets Ââ€" in unique ways. You are offered extensive opportunities to acquire knowledge assets through a wide range of courses, concentrations, specializations, and international options Ââ€" and we give you an unmatched degree of flexibility to assemble these courses in the way that best suits your needs. Through our relationships with companies in New York, the center of global business, we offer multiple opportunities for you to acquire real-world experience through internships, field study and special programs. Students Say - Academics
For New York City professionalsâ€"or those who aspire to beâ€"the Graduate School of Business at Fordham University offers a perfect blend of convenience and quality. Located in the midst of New York's thriving business world, the school's Lincoln Center campus "is accessible and beautiful," giving students the opportunity to keep their job (or start a new one) while they complete their MBA. What's more, "All classes are offered at night or during the day to fit your schedule," and the program is "very flexible," allowing students to tailor their course load each semester. In fact, "You can switch from part time to full time at your wish." Juggling work and school can be a challenge; fortunately, "Coursework is demanding but reasonable," and "If you are working, this school is very much geared for you." A typical part-time student shares, "I study 20â€"30 hours a week while working a full time job." Fordham's required core curriculum provides a complete introduction to business principals through eight courses in subjects including accounting, finance, and marketing. Students admit that some professors are more engaging than others, but, on the whole, classes deliver "extremely valuable and practical knowledge." Working professionals appreciate the fact that "Professors constantly bring real-world applications into the classroom that I can apply to work the very next day." In addition to the core, "Fordham MBA offers quite a wide breadth of course topics and majors," including well-regarded finance and marketing departments and "a strong media and entertainment program." Whether concentrating on finance, media, accounting and taxation, management systems, or marketing, "The degrees and specializations can significantly assist students in focusing on a career path few other schools in the city can offer." In line with the school's Jesuit tradition, education at Fordham extends beyond the classroom, and students are pleased to report that, "Professors have been very helpful with outside interests, discussing current events, and career advising." The academic environment is interactive, and students are encouraged to share insights from their "diverse work experience," and to "learn from other's experiences." With uniformly small class sizes, "students and professors engage in dialogs and everyone is open to one another; it is a friendly, yet serious business environment filled with people from all walks of life." While upholding a strong reputation in New York City, Fordham doesn't rest on its laurels. In recent years, Fordham's top administrators "have worked hard to make positive improvements to the program, so that it remains competitive." In recent years, the school has kept up with recent business trends by "implementing a global sustainability designation [as well as an entrepreneurship designation] and creating international businessculture study tours for students to countries, such as China, Mexico, and Turkey." Moreover, the administrators are "receptive to student feedback and take action when students show an interest in a new subject. Overall the university has improved the curriculum every year, continuing to focus on the most important global issues."

Students Say - Admissions
To apply to Fordham, prospective students must submit a completed application, college transcripts, a resume, three essays, and two letters of recommendation. In recent years, successful admits have 5 to 6 years of professional work experience, and an average GMAT score of 585 (for part-time students) to 600 (for full-time students). Fordham students join the community from varied industries, including radio and television, public relations, real estate, financial services, publishing, and accounting, and they hail from countries as diverse as Russia, Turkey, Nigeria, Mexico, and South Korea.

Students Say - Campus Life
Although Fordham has a large part-time program, the full-time student body has been growing over the past few years and leads an active coterie of student clubs. The majority of students are "hard-working professionals balancing multiple priorities in order to get ahead." In other words, Fordham students are very busy. Even so, the school's atmosphere is laid-back and convivial, lending itself to friendship and networking. "There are generally no competitive pressures" between classmates, and many students make time to "socialize on school days after class." While many Fordham students don't have time for campus activities, there is still plenty going on around Lincoln Center. If you're so inclined, Fordham hosts "many networking events and school sponsored happy hours to meet other students." More informally, "Students typically do their studying at school rather than home and pack the study lounges and library." Drawing a large population from surrounding New York, as well as internationally, Fordham attracts students who are "passionate, fun, very diverse in their attitudes and view points, yet somewhat similar in their quest for new and challenging opportunities."

Students Say - Careers
Fordham maintains a "great reputation in the New York City metropolitan region," which bodes well for students hoping to make a career change after completing their MBA. With more than 15,000 working graduates (most in the New York City region), Fordham's "alumni network is very helpful and well-placed." In particular, Fordham is "a very well-recognized school in the financial as well media sector." Despite these strengths, students feel "Career services could be more aggressive building relationships with top companies for recruiting purposes." New leadership in the Office of Career Management has taken steps to expand the on-campus recruiting program, including full-time jobs and internships. Through the Office of Career Management, Fordham offers resume critiques, career workshops, and on-campus recruiting. In recent years, Fordham graduates have received offers from ABN AMRO, American Express, Bank of America, Barclays Capital, Citigroup Inc., Deloitte, Duff & Phelps, Ernst & Young, General Electric, JPMorgan Chase, KPMG, MTV, NBC Universal, Nestle, Novartis, Pepsico, Pricewaterhouse, Societe Generale, Thomson Reuters, Time Inc., and Unilever. For students who want to work anywhere but New York City, be forewarned that the focus at Fordham is on the Big Apple, and Career Management places graduates primarily in the New York City/Tristate area.
