Students Say - Academics
With its focus on sustainability, diversity, and global management, the University of Californiaâ€"Los Angeles, Anderson School of Management pairs a "collaborative environment" and "entrepreneurial spirit," with an "outstanding reputation." "UCLA Anderson students work hard, work together, and give back. The leadership that students take on with professional clubs, case competitions, and volunteerism is inspiring." Located in Los Angeles, with prime access to Hollywood and all the trappings of the entertainment industry, for those seeking a "career in sports, entertainment, [or] media," UCLA Anderson offers "[a] strong entertainment and entrepreneurial focus" in an "extremely diverse and collaborative community." "Academics are tough," admits one student. "I've had to utilize professors' office hours, TAs and tutors but feel I'm learning what I need to prepare me for my summer internship (on Wall Street)." UCLA, Anderson's program is built around a rigorous core which culminates at the end of the MBA program with a 20-week course entitled Applied Management Research, through which students work in groups to build a business plan, conduct management field study, or collaborate on a special project. "I have been very impressed with our core classes. The professors who teach them are outstanding, and some of the most senior and well-respected faculty…teach core courses because they love the interaction with first-year students." Beyond the strength of its concentrations and its focus on leadership, UCLA Anderson has the added benefit of an "excellent alumni network," and professors who are "top researchers in their fields." The faculty here offers a "very good mix of academics and entrepreneurs. Very well-connected, recognized leaders. You would expect leaders in their field to be at Harvard, or Stanford, etc. But in fact the best leaders are here." In addition, students are drawn to UCLA for the "strength of [its] real estate and finance faculty and curriculum." The school also boasts a strong real estate concentration. As one MBA attests, "I couldn't say no to it. Awesome people, engaged faculty, great facilities. The in-state tuition (while being in a whole different metro area) was a nice bonus." UCLA Anderson's spirit of collaboration "trickles down from the top." "The administration is incredibly helpful, and easily accessible especially with the small class size." Professors encourage students "to come to office hours and introduce themselves personally, and most even offer [a] lifetime guarantee that they will always be willing to answer questions related to their field." True to its global focus, UCLA Anderson provides many opportunities for students to study abroad and engage in global field studies through international exchange partnerships with over 50 leading business schools around the world. In addition to its MBA, FEMBA and EMBA travel studies, UCLA Anderson offers a Global Executive MBA program in partnership with the National University of Singapore conducts classes in Los Angeles, Singapore, Shanghai and Bangalore.

Students Say - Admissions
UCLA receives thousands of applications for an entering class of just 360 students. Admissions Officials insist that there is no specific skill set or "cookie cutter" profile for a successful applicant to Anderson. Rather, the Admissions Committee evaluates each applicant's unique ability to be a leader in management and to contribute to the community at UCLA. As such, there are no minimum requirements for GMAT scores or undergraduate GPA, and there is no minimum requirement for previous work experience-though these factors are heavily considered in an admissions decision. Other factors that influence an admissions decision are TOEFL scores (when applicable), achievements, awards, letters of recommendation, college and community involvement, and previous leadership experience. Prospective students also have the option of scheduling an interview at UCLA.

As one students says, UCLA Anderson MBAs "are all incredibly intelligent and ambitious, but do not have any sense of arrogance about them. They challenge each other, but collaborate on all aspects of assignments and final projects." In a nutshell, the community here is rife with "the kind of people you can work on a challenging problem with one night and have a beer with the next." Daily life is "much more social than I expected, which is significantly aided by the weather. Every day between classes, you can find a majority of your classmates relaxing in the sun in the courtyard buzzing about school or weekend plans. The students socialize regularly together, with frequent beach volleyball games, hiking trips, surf outings, or beach bonfires." In addition to the more relaxed gatherings, "there seems to be a student group to match all students' needs, from identity groups to professional associations." One student attests, " I am active in the Real Estate Association which plans ‘day on the jobs' with industry leading companies, brings in distinguished speakers, plans a career night with more than 30 real estate companies in attendance, facilitates relationships with alumni and provides practical training."
