Best Business Schools (Southeast)
Students Say - Academics
With its "solid academic reputation, strong leadership and teamwork focus, and casebased methodology," The University at Chapel Hill's Kenan-Flagler Business School offers the perfect balance of "sustainability, entrepreneurship and traditional business disciplines." Students across the board laud the school's "collaborative culture" which applies to everything from academics to campus life; "The students at Kenan-Flagler are focused upon the betterment of their own careersâ€"but not at the expense of the greater good. They seem to effectively balance larger perspectives with individual needs." In addition to their Full-time MBA program, the school offers a OneMBA for Executives (catering to executives with 14-plus years of experience), as well as an MBA for Executives Weekend and Evenings programs (for business professionals with an average of 10 years experience). The Kenan-Flager MBA begins with a rigorous core curriculum which exposes all students to the full cycle of running a business. With a "focus on teamwork, leadership, and the ‘soft skills,'" and an emphasis on case studies, "core courses are taught by senior faculty" and "class sizes are appropriate for materials." The school is noted for its "strong sustainable enterprise, entrepreneurship, [and] real estate programs among other top-ranked bschools." Those searching to stay ahead of the trend in terms of becoming the next leaders of sustainable business practices are drawn to the unique sustainable energy concentration. Other strengths include consulting, marketing, and finance. As forward-thinking as their students, the Kenan-Flagler program remains committed to innovation; twenty percent of the school's elective offerings change annually in response to new business trends. In addition, students applaud the school's "proximity to the Research Triangle Park, top-20 national ranking, [and] attractive financial package." With its collaborative atmosphere and forward-thinking inclinations, it's no surprise that the alumni network at UNCâ€"Chapel Hill is a huge asset to recent graduates. Says one, "I've never met any other alumni who spoke so well of their school; they all seemed to love their Chapel Hill experience in a unique way." The faculty is "first class." Professors are "extremely available. Many professors give up their weekends to meet with students to discuss cases and review the prior week's material." However, others caution that while "the core course professors are extremely good and well-respected within their fields of study," non-core professors "can be hit or miss. I have had some great non-core professors and some new professors [with whom] I feel I did not get the full benefit of the courses." The administration "does a good job incorporating overall initiatives and adapting to changing environments in business education." Furthermore, "the weather is great"â€" "there are beaches and mountains just a couple of hours away"â€"and you can't beat the school's "outstanding reputation."

Students Say - Admissions
The Kenan-Flagler School of Business admits students who demonstrate leadership and organizational skills, communication ability, interpersonal skills, teamwork ability, analytic and problem-solving skills, drive and motivation, prior academic performance, career progression, and career goals. The school recommends at least 2 years of full-time work experience before entering the program. No specific course work is necessary, but students must have knowledge of financial accounting, statistics, macroeconomics, and calculus. Students Say - Campus Life
True to their "collaborative nature," students at UNC Kenan-Flagler are "incredibly smart individuals with an amazing sense of humility and sense of awareness to the others in our class." Driven to seek out new paths in their respective fields, here is a "smart and dynamic" group of "joiners and doers" who are "unafraid to say what they think." As one MBA notes, students "are as competitive yet collaborative as any group of people that I have come across. They push me to be the best that I can be." Beyond their drive and intelligence, students are "friendly, family-oriented, [and] people with lives outside of school work." Diversity is abundant. One student reflects, "It's a hysterical mixâ€"in one class I've got an actress, an NFL player, two ex-military guys, two nonprofiteers, and a guy with a Ph D." The campus that UNCâ€"Chapel Hill offers is "unbeatable," offering a "college town atmosphere" at a "top school." UNCâ€"Chapel Hill boasts "a very social crowd that hangs out often. The small overall class size[s] allow you to know the majority of your class[mates] within the first semester and a half. Due to the close relationships of the class, everyone is willing to help out with other students' career searches and learning." In addition, "students here get heavily involved in both clubs and social activities." "The basketball team (despite having a rough year) is a highlight always."
