Students Say - Academics
"The whole point of a Huntington education is "honoring Christ in scholarship and service." Given that goal, it comes as no surprise that there is an "integration of faith" with every subject. "In the area of the humanities there are a lot of great profs." In addition, "the theater department totally owns [that of] any other Christian university out there." "And the religious instruction here is pretty good too, if you are into that." (Many students here are.) "Professors, though some of them are not fair or the most fantastic teachers, care about people and are available out of class." They "take the time to get to know you individually and genuinely want you to succeed." All in all, "classes are academically challenging, but also manageable." Like professors, administrators also "get out on campus and take the time to interact with students." "Students are frequently invited to the president's home for social gatherings be it large or small groups." On the downside, "registration can be frustrating.""

Students Say - Campus Life
"Because of its religious affiliation, Huntington offers a unique living experience to its undergraduates. For example, "Chapel is required." And "Rated R movies are banned" except under special circumstances, such as a classroom discussion or film discussion group. "Social dancing is not prohibited, but the school does not sponsor any such activities." As do many other colleges, Christian or secular, Huntington prohibits students from "drinking or doing anything illegal." Incorporating some of these proscriptions, and adding others, is a document students must sign and live up to called a Community Life Agreement, which sets forth several standards (including legal and civil standards, Christian standards, community standards, safety and health standards, and internet standards). (The document is available on the school's website.) Having agreed to all these restrictions, students plan their social lives accordingly. What, then, do students do for fun? They "watch movies, play euchre, talk, [and] play ultimate Frisbee." They "go to sporting events (basketball, soccer games, etc.)." They go "ice-skating, roller-skating, drive to a shopping center about 30 minutes off campus, bowling, go to the reservoir and look at stars (couples do this), go to Coffee D'vine for fellowships and concerts, and many other fun activities.""

Students Say - Student Body
"At Huntington, the "typical student is a white, middle-class, politically conservative, Protestant Christian… A large percentage of students are also ‘on fire' for Jesus and wish to join the missions field in the United States or abroad to work as missionariesâ€"teaching, working in poor communities, and evangelizing." This student is "usually from the Midwest" and "happy all the time…because God is in control." "Even though we have next to no diversity (in terms of race, sexual orientation, socioeconomic background, religious dogma, etc.) within the student body, students seem truly willing to love each other and to welcome ‘the other' into their midst." The school has recently partnered with Youth for Christ to launch a leadership program aiming to create more ethnic and cultural diversity on campus. "Atypical students generally form the pseudo- or truly intellectual bunch, the type of student who doesn't want to rush into marriage, scorns white picket fences, and is generally artistic and/or ambitious and believes that either they can change the world before Tuesday or that Nietzsche was most probably right and therefore we should hang out at bars drinking coffee…taking black and white photos and/or writing poetry.""
