"Talladega College is the "the oldest Historically Black College in Alabama" and its tuition is incredibly affordable for a private school. "This school has a lot to offer the world," says one proud student. "Check us out." You'll find "amazing Math and Science Departments" here. The Biology Department stands out as a particularly great strength. Other students sing the praises of their own departments, including music and education. "Students appreciate the student-to-teacher ratio." The "outstanding" professors are "easy to talk to" and "very good at their job." "My professors are great professors," asserts a business major. The "sucky administration," on the other hand, could improve the registration and financial aid processes. Talladega was originally founded by two former slaves and it boasts a uniquely "rich history." Embedded in the walls and the floor of the library lobby is a set of murals depicting the famous revolt that occurred in 1839 aboard the Amistad. School tradition dictates that you can never step on the part of the mural on the floor."
Students Say - Campus Life
"Talladega's campus is "very peaceful," so you can "get your work done." "Some of the dorms are in disrepair," though, and the food and technology on campus aren't great. "Talladega as a college and a town is small so there isn't much to do so you have to make your own fun." "We do have some activities during the week," explains one student. Greek organizations contribute a glimmer of social life, mainly in the form of Thursday-night parties. Other campus activities happen "from time to time, but you really have to use your imagination and try not to get into trouble." Often, students "just chill in a friend's room and laugh and talk." Weekends can be pretty dead. "Other than some dances and poetry nights, you would have to leave off campus for some fun." "For fun, most people leave the campus." "My friends and I will go to the movies, have a picnic on campus or at a local park, or go out to eat to a local restaurant, but mostly we'll go to Birmingham, which is 45 minutes away, or Anniston, which is 30 minutes away.""
Students Say - Student Body
""Talladega is an HBCU, so about 99 percent of the students are Black," says a junior. Over 60 percent of the students are female. Most students are from "middle- to lower-middle-class" families. They "work hard" and "seem ready to learn." They have "moderate" political and religious views. The "close-knit" student body here "really gets along well." "Everyone knows everyone." "Everybody here on campus is like family." "The strengths of my school are the bonds that are created while attending," enthuses a chemistry major. "Even the Greeks exhibit unity and love that keeps us entertained and inspired." "The oddballs are still loved and not mistreated," promises a junior. "
