Founded in 1893, Aurora University describes itself as "an inclusive community dedicated to the transformative power of learning." Undergraduates can earn bachelor's degrees in any of 40 degree programs. Emphasis is placed on both classroom learning and hands-on learning experienced in internships and clinical experiences. Many of the academic programs offered are in pre-professional fields such as athletic training, business, education, nursing, and social work. In addition, traditional liberal arts majors are offered. The university has a growing program in the fine arts, including art, music and theatre. Scholarships are awarded to outstanding music and theatre students based on auditions.
Located in an attractive residential neighborhood on the southwest side of Aurora, IllinoisÃâ"the state's second largest city with population of over 170,000Ãâ"the 30-acre campus is located only minutes from the Illinois Research and Development Corridor, home to dozens of nationally-and internationally-based businesses. Along with the campus in Aurora, undergraduate and graduate degree programs are offered at the George Williams College campus near Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.
The university offers the range of programs characteristic of a university as well as the benefits of the personal attention characteristic of a small college. Students who are open about their major will discover the right field of study through the general education program. Highly motivated students with a high school GPA of 3.0 or above and an ACT of 25 or higher are invited to join the AU Honors Program. At the heart of the program is the opportunity to participate in advanced coursework, innovative seminars, and special events.
The campus centers on "the Quad"--a grassy area at the center of the campus. Surrounding the Quad, housing is offered to undergraduates. The newest academic building completed in 2006 is the Institute for Collaboration which houses the College of Education as well as classrooms for AU students and 200 elementary students from the West Aurora School District. Total university enrollment is over 4,300, including 2,400 undergraduates. Over 95% of students receive financial aid with over $12 million in scholarships awarded in 2009-2010.

School Says - Campus Life
Located on the southwest side of Aurora, Illinois, the state's second largest city, Aurora University is nestled in a residential area just minutes from the prestigious high-tech corridor that stretches along I-88 across the northern part of the state. The university is housed on a 30-acre campus with a blend of historic and new academic, administrative, and residential buildings. The university's George Williams College campus and conference center sits 70 miles to the north, along the banks of Geneva Lake in Wisconsin.
The campus is welcoming with faculty who are passionate about their subject matter and have devoted their professional lives to students. There are no packed lecture halls with teaching assistants. Rather classes are small, 23 students on average, and faculty know students by name. The first-year program recognizes the unique needs of first-year students and guides them through the transition from high school to college.
Campus organizations abound with over 50 musical, literary, religious, social and service groups to consider. Students can develop their leadership skills or make lifelong friends through student government or academic societies. Studies show that students who are involved in activities outside of the classroom are more satisfied with their college experience.
Athletics are an important tradition at Aurora University. About one-fourth of traditional AU students participate in intercollegiate athletics. Students have a choice of 19 intercollegiate NCAA Division III sports for men and women. Lacrosse will be added in 2010. In recent years, Spartan teams have compiled an amazing 51 conference titles. Twelve intramural sports allow students to compete in round robin tournaments with fellow students.
