Students Say - Academics
Small, "holistically Christian" Covenant College in Georgia is a liberal arts institution "dedicated to making Christ the pre-eminent focus of student life-physically, academically, and socially." All undergrads must complete several Bible and theology-related courses. The academic environment is "very personal." Small classes are a big plus. "They foster good in-depth discussion," relates a physics major. "Most classes are challenging and require work but, overall, if you work hard you can do well." A few professors are "bad teachers," but students report that the faculty is "normally excellent." "Our professors are extremely informed, hilarious, personable, and downright awesome," exalts an English major. The top brass is "tied to some fairly silly rules." "They make some 'huh?' decisions every now and then," notes a sophomore. The administration is "approachable" and "helpful," though, and most students agree that the school is "run very well."

Students Say - Campus Life
This is not a party school. Chapel attendance is mandatory. Smoking and drinking are forbidden. "We had to sign a contract," explains a first-year student. Campus life here is filled with "tons of school-sponsored activities." "Concerts and plays and musicals are a really big deal." A high percentage of students participate in intercollegiate and intramural sports as well. Socially, Covenant has "a great community feel." The dorms are the epicenters of student life. "The halls tend to be pretty close-knit and do quite a few activities together." "Halls have identities," adds a junior. "They are our version of sororities and fraternities." Deep conversations are rampant. "The Christian background of the school is a marinade that soaks into everything," notes a senior, "which means that most discussions eventually turn religious." Students also enjoy a "beautiful location" atop "a postcard-worthy mountain." Outdoor activities run the gamut. Hiking, mountain biking, and cliff jumping are readily available. You can rock climb "on bluffs right by the school." However, the campus is "pretty isolated." "It kind of sucks being stuck on the mountain when you don't have a car." If you do have a car, "a 15-minute drive will get you to Chattanooga," where there's an impressive art district, "good coffeehouses," and "a lot to do." By all accounts, Chattanooga is "a great city to live by."

Students Say - Student Body
Most of the students at Covenant are middle-class, white Christians. More than 90 percent receive some kind of financial aid. It's "a solid mix of kids who come from public schools, private schools, and home-schooled backgrounds." "Missionary kids" are relatively common, too. Students here are "strongly committed" to their religious beliefs. They are "interested in making an impact for Christ." "Most people are pretty conservative morally and obey the rules." At the same time, "Covenant is becoming steadily more artsy." Many students share "a sort of organic style and attitude." Students report that social connection is very easy. "There aren't many cliques that people feel obligated to join," observes one student. "People's social circles cross, and it forms a Venn diagram that makes sure everyone fits in somewhere."
