Students Say - Academics
"Located in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Oral Roberts University is a large, Christian school committed to preparing students "spiritually, mentally, and physically to fulfill God's calling in my life." Many students choose Oral Roberts for its distinct spiritual atmosphere, telling us that "the people (teachers and students) are compassionate, genuine, and sincere Christians that share and support one another and the community with God's great love." The school further distinguishes itself from other undergraduate institutions through an extensive list of general education requirements (which can make it difficult to transfer to or from the school), compulsory chapel service, and mandatory physical education courses. When it comes to educational rigor, "Standards are highly dependent on the professor," and many admit that the general education requirements are "a little less challenging" than major course work. No matter what the discipline, Christianity is fundamental to the academic program, and "Professors integrate spirituality into all academic classes and usually pray before every class period. They create an atmosphere that strives for excellent academics and fosters spiritual growth." "

Students Say - Campus Life
"Social life at ORU is generally low key. When they aren't hitting the books, students "like to go to coffee shops or just some place to talk, play games, and take it easy." Students appreciate the fact that "Drugs and alcohol on campus is not an issue at all" and partying is basically nonexistent. A freshman enthuses, "I love how I don't have to worry about peer pressure to drink or smoke. Instead, we can all have fun going to IHOP or the dollar theater and just hanging out." Social activities are also arranged through campus dormitories---specifically, through the brother-sister wing system, in which "A guys' floor is matched together with a girls' floor, and from there they hang out, eat in the caf, and plan activities together." While everyone lauds the atmosphere of "good, clean fun," some feel the school's nightly curfew and rules against living off campus are a little excessive. A current student explains, "Most of the students here really are good kids, and we're not going to get into too much trouble if they give us a little more freedom.""

Students Say - Student Body
"Not surprisingly, Oral Roberts attracts "Christian, wholesome, ambitious students who mostly all get along with one another." While the majority are Charismatic or Pentecostal, "Students come from various denominations of the Christian church" and no matter what your faith, "Everyone is understanding and embracing of diverse worship and prayer methods." There are even some nonreligious students at ORU; however, it should be noted that non-Christians "very often don't stay long at ORU or are miserable here unless their life is changed by God during their time at ORU, which happens often." In addition to their common faith, students at Oral Roberts share an amiable disposition. A current student gushes, "The best word to describe the typical student at ORU would be ‘friendly.' I have formed more friendships in the short amount of time I've spent here than anywhere else I've ever been.""
