"If you have been searching for a "top-quality education at an affordable price," look no further than Cal State San Bernardino. Students note that this "big-school-within-a-small-school feel" is blessed with a staff of "knowledgeable professors that go out of their way to make sure students learn the material presented." Displaying a true dedication to teaching, CSUSB faculty are consistently "available outside of class and communicate with the student often." "It definitely a plus to go to school where you know if you need help there are people willing and wanting to help you," says a senior. In the classroom, "each professor" has the "unique ability" to make "it a very fun and helpful academic learning experience." The school is currently "caught up in [its] expansion" since it is "at full capacity," and many here applaud this move thanks to the "opportunities that come [with it] (such as in student leadership)." Administrators are also singled out for their "generous" and "very helpful" attitude toward students. As one freshman reports, "I always came away with a positive feeling after all my encounters with this school's administration.""
Students Say - Campus Life
"The majority of students at CSUSB commute to school, and most are balancing the rigors of "getting an education while trying to juggle a job and a social life at the same time." As a result, students tend to have a casual involvement with campus life, socializing informally with classmates and possibly getting involved in a few extracurricular activities. A current undergrad shares a somewhat typical day in the life: "I take a full load of classes each quarter and usually stop by the Student Union for an iced soy chai, chat with my sorority sisters, and grab a bite to eat before my next class." For those looking for a more traditional college experience, there are plenty of student clubs and organizations on campus, as well as "a gym, billiard tables, a rock-climbing wall, and skiing and canoeing excursions." As a senior explains, "It's easy to get involved for people who look for it, and I feel like I've had a genuine impact on my campus and never felt lost in the shuffle." For outdoorsy types, the "mountains are 30 minutes away, and [the] beach is 60 minutes away," offering plenty of surfing, skiing, hiking, and other fun activities "no matter what season it is.""
Students Say - Student Body
"Cal State San Bernardino attracts students who are "very down to earth, pragmatic, and âreal,'" many of which "have led interesting and challenging lives." While most hail from Southern California, the similarities end there as the "population is very mixed in age, ethnicity, socioeconomic background, and religion." Students say the diversity is one of the major benefits of their college experience, and on this open and friendly campus, "CSUSB represents academic integrity, diversity, and equal educational opportunity for everyone." In addition to the traditional college-age students, "There is also a large population of older adults who are coming back to school.""
