School Says - General Information
Focused on professional studies and the liberal arts, D'Youville College is a private institution with a coed student body of over 3,000. Founded in 1908, D'Youville has a proud history: The College was the first in western New York to grant undergraduate degrees to female students. Today, D'Youville offers degrees in over thirty-five different undergraduate and graduate programs. The College's holistic approach to education, as well as the 14:1 student-faculty ratio, encourages personal development alongside of academic pursuits. D'Youville hosts one of the nation's biggest four-year, private nursing programs. The multiple-option Nursing Degree Program allows students to choose between BSN, BSN/MS (five years), and RN to BSN courses of study. Students can also undertake a five-year program resulting in a combined bachelor's/master's (BS/MS) degree in the areas of accounting, education, information technology, occupational therapy, international business, physician assistant and dietetics. Those seeking master's degrees may apply in elementary, secondary, special education, community health nursing, occupational therapy, international business, and health services administration. There is also a 7 year, bachlor's and doctorate of chiropractic and 6 year, bachelor's and doctorate of physical therapy. Upon graduating from D'Youville, 96 percent of students either secure jobs in their chosen field or go on to graduate school. The College's location by the Niagara River and Lake Erie provides breathtaking vistas, enjoyed by students living in Marguerite Hall. The Koessler Administration Building houses the president's offices as well as the offices of admissions, financial aid, student accounts, and the registrar. The Learning Center and Kavinoky Theatre also share that building. When it's time to relax, students head to the Student Center, outfitted with a gymnasium, swimming pool, weight-training room, dance studio, general recreation center, pub, and dining facilities. Campus life thrives thanks to student organizations including social groups, academic clubs, and the College newspaper. For athletes of any persuasion, the ski club, intramural teams, and NCAA Division III intercollegiate sports (baseball, basketball, volleyball, golf, cross-country, crew, soccer, and softball) provide athletic activities.

School Says - Student Body
Student representatives elected to the Student Association (SA) work with the administration and faculty to make decisions regarding the College's academic, social, and moral life. The SA comprises the executive council and student senate, and any D'Youville attendees can run for a position or participate in any of the 17 related academic and social organizations. Extracurricular activities are an important part of college life and at D'Youville we want your academic experience to be safe, successful and fun. Several key services and programs will help you meet your goals and enjoy your time outside of the classroom. Our intercollegiate program is a Division III member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, competing in the Eastern College Athletic Conference. A variety of recreational activities are available as well as a fitness center, swimming pool and game room. Students can also join academic, cultural, and recreational clubs, serve on campus wide committees, contribute to student publications, perform in the arts, attend special events, and take advantage of many volunteer opportunities. As a new student, you will be invited to attend an orientation program for freshmen, families, transfers, certificate or graduate students. Here you'll learn about program requirements, course selection with an academic advisor, registration, and information seminars. The D'Youville Freshman Experience (DFX) is designed to help make your first year exciting, fun and challenging. At orientation, you'll be assigned a college mentor and registered for the FOCUS Freshmen Seminar. There are also activities and leadership opportunities (D'Youville Leads) as well as a Peer Mentor Program coordinated through the Leadership Development Institute.

School Says - Academics
Students select a major based on their interests and career goals. Any area of study provides a solid background for post-college pursuits. In order to graduate, students must fulfill the requirements of their department, complete the core requirements, pass a total of 120 credit hours, and maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.0. The core requirements cover humanities, 24 hours; social science, 12 hours; science, 7 hours; mathematics/computer science, 6 hours; and electives, 9 hours. Most students take five or six classes, approximately 16 credit hours, each semester. Internships can compliment classroom experiences in any course of study. Students who are undecided regarding their major can benefit from participation in the Career Discovery Program. Over the course of two years, students explore career options through classes and internships. The academic year is divided into two fifteen-week semesters. Students complete the final exams for the first semester prior to winter break. Summer programs, lasting eight weeks, are also available for certain classes. In order to better prepare for D'Youville courses, students can find assistance at the College Learning Center. For help in a specific subject, the Tutor Bank provides trained peer tutors.

School Says - Admissions
Admission to D'Youville College is moderately competitive. Our selection process identifies those qualified men and women who will benefit most from the programs the college offers. In making admissions decisions, we consider grades, class rank, standardized test scores, recommendations, and any additional information you can provide. To apply you'll need to submit a completed application along with a $25 processing fee, official high school transcripts or, if you're a transfer student, official transcripts from colleges previously attended. You must also submit SAT I or ACT scores and letters of recommendation. Review the admission requirements for the major of your choice on our website. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis for all programs except the Physicians Assistant program. You can expect to receive an admissions decision within three weeks of the time we receive all the necessary forms, test scores, and transcripts. The sooner you complete your application, the sooner you'll receive a decision. Admission to D'Youville College is granted without regard to age, race, gender, national origin, religious affiliation, or disability.

School Says - Campus Life
Located in Buffalo, the D'Youville campus enjoys a residential setting. The downtown shopping center, the Kleinhans Music Hall, the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, two museums, and several theaters are all nearby. Toronto, a mere 90 miles away, offers additional metropolitan attractions, and Niagara Falls can be reached in just 25 minutes. Skiers can make it to Holiday Valley in about an hour. Buffalo can be reached via the New York State Thruway, Amtrak, Greyhound and Trailways bus lines, and most major airlines. D'Youville connects itself to the community by forging relationships with local schools, hospitals, and social groups. Buffalo is home to more than 60,000 college students in all. Specific departments affiliate with the appropriate area organizations. For instance, the nursing program works with 13 local hospitals and public health agencies. Nearby elementary, junior high, and secondary schools, as well as special education centers, are available for student teaching assignments for those in the education program. D'Youville students pursuing degrees in occupational therapy, physical therapy, and the physician assistant program can get hands-on experience at clinics across the country.

School Says - Cost Aid
In 2008-2009, tuition totaled $18,800 annually, and another $7600 to $9300 is charged for room and board. A mandatory College fee is assessed according to the number of credit hours a student enrolls in. There is a $40 Student Association fee, which defrays the costs of concerts, yearbooks, guest lectures, and other activities. Additionally, there is a $25 orientation fee and $20 liability insurance fee.Financial aid is intended to ensure that D'Youville is financially accessible to students of all backgrounds. The allocations of grants, loans, and work-study opportunities are determined by review of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Ninety percent of D'Youville freshmen receive financial aid. This includes nearly $2,000,000 in grants and scholarships. Grants include: Federal Pell Grants and Supplemental Education Opportunity Grants, New York State Tuition Assistance Program, and Aid for Part-Time Study. Federal Work-Study programs, federally insured loans, and flexible payment plans are also available. All applicants are reviewed for academic scholarships at the time of acceptance. Notifications of awards are made upon acceptance. Awards include: Presidential Honors Scholarships, Academic Initiative Scholarships, Achievement Scholarships and Transfer Achievement Scholarships. These scholarships are based on academic performance and could be worth up to $58,600. All continuing students may apply for thousands of dollars from endowed and restricted scholarships. Canadian students receive a 20-percent tuition waiver unless the student receives a RN Nursing waiver. All undergraduate Canadian students are eligible for academic scholarships. Nursing students in the BSN completion program for RNs receive a 50% tuition-only waiver. D'Youville is a member of the Council of Independent Colleges Tuition Exchange Program and the Tuition Exchange Program, Inc. Both are tuition remission program.
