Students Say - Academics
Misericordia is all about the health science majors, and given the school's well-regarded programs in nursing, physical therapy, and medical imaging it's easy to see why. Misericordia also boasts solid offerings in business and education, but it's truly the health sciences that grab most of the attention (and most of the students; one in three here graduate with a degree in the health sciences). Students warn that the programs "are very challenging" and that "the coursework is rigorous," but that "it all adds up in the end" to a highly marketable degree. "Hands-on experience taught by professionals in the field," resources that "are becoming increasingly more and more advanced in technology and equipment," and a dedicated faculty ("Many of our professors, even the part-time [teachers], stay late [and] come in on their days off...just to help even one student that is struggling.") are the hallmarks of a Misericordia education. All of this results in "a friendly, caring environment" that promotes success. Students also praise the school's "programs for internships and studying abroad," which they report "are becoming more and more important and popular."

Students Say - Campus Life
Life is "peaceful and relaxed" on the Misericordia campus. Some find it too peaceful, telling us that "there really are not things to do on the weekends." As a result, "a lot of students go home," and "the ones that stay here don't push for things to do...they just complain." The Office of Student Activities does its best, hosting "different activities throughout the year and on the weekend as much as they can. We have had mind readers, comedians, game nights, etc." The school also "offers programs to go white-water rafting, hiking, paddling, camping, and rock climbing." Sporting events draw decent crowds, and there are off-campus parties. Though hometown Dallas can be sleepy, "there's a lot to do" in nearby Wilkes-Barre, which "has two colleges" and so "is much more of a college town than Dallas." "Shuttle services go to the surrounding cities," making a car less of a necessity than at other schools.

Students Say - Student Body
The typical student is a white female at Misericordia; students note that "the female-to-male ratio is very high." Undergrads tend to be "hard-working, dedicated, and committed to the four charismas that define our school: service, justice, hospitality, and mercy." "Despite your outward appearance, the person in front of you will always hold the door for you. That's just Mis students," undergrads here assure us. The school "is populated almost entirely by Caucasian, upper-middle-class students. While there is some socioeconomic diversity, there is little to no racial diversity, nor is there a strong LGBT community in any way."
