A Bentley education combines an unparalleled array of business courses with hands-on technology experience and a strong foundation in the liberal arts. Students gain expertise for a competitive edge in today's economy and broad-based skills essential for success in all areas of life.
School Says - Student Body
Bentley offers students many avenues for getting involved, making friends, and having fun. Campus activities include athletic events, music and theater programs, and lectures on topical issues, as well as more than 100 clubs and organizations. Students can choose from academically oriented groups, the creative and performing arts, student government, a campus newspaper and radio station, fraternity and sorority life, and much more.
Bentley fields 23 varsity sports for men and women, with all but the Division I men's ice hockey team competing at the NCAA Division II level. The university is a member of the Northeast-10 Conference and the Division I Atlantic Hockey Association. Many teams regularly qualify for post-season competition, and individual student-athletes routinely earn athletic and academic honors. Recreational athletes at Bentley take part in an ever-growing list of intramural sports and activities. Options include fitness training, ultimate Frisbee, and flag football, along with traditional sports such as soccer, softball, volleyball, and basketball.
School Says - Academics
At Bentley University, students benefit from a unique integration of business and the liberal arts. As the largest business school in New England, Bentley offers remarkable depth in topics such as management, marketing, and accountancy. A similarly strong commitment to the liberal arts helps students build skills in critical thinking, decision-making, communication, and other areas essential for a meaningful life and rewarding career. Ethics and social responsibility are key themes in Bentley courses as well as supported by the universityÃ's internationally recognized Center for Business Ethics and nationally ranked Service-Learning Center.
Over the course of four years, Bentley students develop a solid understanding of the latest technologies and how businesses use them to stay competitive. The focus on information technology begins early, as all freshmen receive a laptop that is fully loaded and network ready. With wireless coverage all over campus -- including classrooms, residence hall rooms, dining halls, and the library -- students have fast and convenient access to the Internet, the Bentley network, and many other information sources. This commitment to high-tech learning is supported by an array of academic resources, including classrooms equipped with multimedia technology, student computer laboratories, and a Virtual Lab with specialized software accessible from anywhere on campus.
School Says - Admissions
Students applying for admission to Bentley University are encouraged to complete a competitive college-preparatory program. Recommendations include four years of English, four years of mathematics (preferably algebra I and II, geometry, and pre-calculus or its equivalent), and three to four years each of history, laboratory science, and foreign language.
Along with the Common Application and Bentley Supplement, students must submit a secondary school transcript, letters of recommendation from a teacher and a counselor, and official scores of either the SAT or ACT, including the ACT Writing Test. The university has special applications for international students and transfer students. Applicants whose native language is not English must also have official scores of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) to the Office of Undergraduate Admission.
The application deadline for students planning to enter in September is January 15. For students planning to begin study in January, the deadline is November 15. Candidates for the fall semester are notified by April 1; spring semester candidates are notified on a rolling basis.
The Early Decision program is designed for academic achievers for whom Bentley is the first choice. Students who are admitted through this binding program agree to withdraw any applications submitted to other colleges and universities. The Early Decision application deadline is November 1. The Early Action program is intended for applicants who are seriously considering Bentley, but are not prepared to commit through the Early Decision program. Early Action students receive an earlier admission decision than regular applicants, but can consider other academic options. The application deadline is November 15. Students Say - Academics
If you're looking to work in business in the Boston area, desire a beautiful campus, state-of-the-art trading room, and technologically-advanced university, Bentley University is the place for you, one student assures us. Bentley is known for its business program, and many students cite the program's excellent reputation as their reason for choosing to attend college here, as well as strong career services and professional internship opportunities. Students are pleased with Bentley's abilities to create a "career-bound student while instilling the importance of liberal studies," and to "prepare you and help you earn a job with all the technical and educational background you need." They also "love that most of the professors have worked outside of academia and can bring...real-world experience and examples to the classroom." Professors are "great role models and have had a lot of experience in the business world," and "all professors hold office hours, and they are all responsive to e-mail and phone messages." "Class sizes are capped at 35, which gives students a solid relationship with each professor," and "a lot of classes are discussion-based and force you to think about real-world applications." Some students note that classes can be challenging, but that "many of the departments have tutoring labs available for students at all levels." The administration also receives high marks: It is "truly concerned with students' wants," "engaging and open to new ideas," and "very communicative."
Students Say - Campus Life
Bentley students study hard and are "very business-like" during week, so they use weekends to blow off a little steam. Many seek fun in the local sports teams (Red Sox, Patriots, and Celtics), local bars on Moody Street, and regular shuttles into Cambridge (Boston is also easily accessible via public transportation). "This university really strikes a great balance of fun and work." While students are happy to have a city like Boston nearby, with its "bars, historical sites, theatres, restaurants, clubs, etc.," there is plenty of activity on campus, too, and "entertainment is limitless." "Students are extremely involved at Bentley." "Most students participate in more than one club, and many hold administrative positions in the club. These clubs lead to not only good friends but also networking opportunities." "Many people participate in very competitive intramural sports." Bentley does have a Greek system, though frat houses are located off campus.
Students Say - Student Body
A typical student at Bentley "is an intelligent, white New Englander." Moreover, they are "very driven and know what they want to do with their life," and they "know how to have a good time and balance that with school- work." "On the surface, most students appear to be the same: serious business students working all the time," and they are "involved in a few extracurriculars." However, look beneath the surface and you will notice a significant inter- national population and "a lot of atypical students" who "fit in with the rest of the students perfectly." Some students say they think the majority of their peers come from wealth, but most feel that Bentley is fairly balanced: "While walking through campus, you may see tons of individuals driving expensive cars or walking to class dressed to the nines, [but] you will also encounter people driving inexpensive cars and walking to class dressed in sweats."
