Best Business Schools (Southeast)
Students Say - AcademicsSavvy business students looking for maximum return on investment say you'll get "a high-quality education for a reasonable price" at the University of Texas at Arlington. The school maintains an outstanding reputation in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area, and also attracts students for its unique fields of study, including an MBA concentration in real estate business and a rigorous master's program in quantitative finance. The accounting program also enjoys high repute, and "UT Arlington ranks in the top three schools in which the students pass all the sections of the CPA exam the first time around." UT Arlington offers a number of MBA options for working professionals and for fulltime students, both in Forth Worth and at the school's Arlington campus. In addition to the traditional MBA, which can be completed on a full-time or part-time basis, the school operates an accelerated 15-month Executive MBA for working professionals, and a fulltime Cohort MBA, which offers a unique team-based approach to business study with a lockstep curriculum. You can even participate in a "wonderful" online MBA program through UT Arlington. No matter if you are a full- or part-time student, you'll find yourself in classes with "a bright and disciplined group of folks," who are "focused on doing their best and contributing their part to the overall academic experience." Cohort students appreciate a particular sense of camaraderie, because "the lockstep program is crucial in getting to know [your] peers, and building and maintaining networks which can be used in future business endeavors." Of particular note, professional students feel that UT Arlington caters to their unique needs, helping them to balance the diverse challenges of work, school, and family life. At UT Arlington, both faculty and administrators "realize we have careers and lives, respect that, and work with us to make our learning experience the best it can be." Academically, every professor has "an outstanding academic background, an impressive work history, and certifications in their field. Many are also authors, contributing to the advancement of their professions, while also putting their opinion out there to be criticized by their peers." In addition to full-time staff, "there is a good relationship between professors and companies around the DFW area; in many cases, executives have been invited as guest speakers." Although UT Arlington is a large public school, it isn't beleaguered by excessive administrative headaches. On the contrary, a current student attests, "Overall, I'm very pleased with the way the Business School is run. I haven't had any problems getting into the classes that I was interested in, and the professors have been very helpful."
Students Say - Admissions
UT Arlington carefully considers both quantitative and qualitative factors in every admissions decision. Admissions requirements vary by program; however, for the traditional, two-year program, the average GMAT score and GPA for students entering the MBA program are 550 and 3.25, respectively. Work experience is not a requirement, but 2-5 years is preferred. To be considered for admission, students must also submit test scores and transcripts, as well as a statement of purpose, recommendations, and a resume.
Students Say - Campus Life
On this diverse, metropolitan campus, "each student is different from the next." Representing a "wide cross-section of society," UT Arlington attracts students of "every race, a range of ages," and students who are "married, single, and with children." You'll also find "a large number of foreign students in this MBA program," which most see as an advantageous way to "globalize your Business School experience." The one uniting factor is that "most everyone works, and brings with him or her a breadth of knowledge and experience." Despite the diversity, UT Arlington students can nonetheless be grouped into two major categories: "married working professionals working to improve themselves," and "students that entered the program shortly after obtaining an undergraduate degree." In both groups, most students commute to UT Arlington (keep in mind that "there is no public transportation [to Arlington], so we need cars"); however, students say there is still plenty of campus life, if you're looking for a more traditional college experience. In fact, a current MBA candidate insists, "The school overall is moving from a "commuter" school to a more traditional school. More students are living on campus [and] more activities and organizations are starting." In addition, the larger university is home to "many interdisciplinary groups that offer multiple activities on campus: theater, recitals, sports, and so forth." However, weekends quiet down around Arlington, so "be ready to commute to Fort Worth or Dallas to accommodate your night-life plans."
Students Say - Careers
Thanks to the school's great regional reputation and the dedicated efforts of the career center, it's relatively easy to start a new career after finishing your MBA at UT Arlington. A current student praises, "The career services center in the College of Business provided me with resume preparation, mock interviews, and made it simple for me, through the electronic networking system, to set up on-campus interviews with industry leaders." In addition, "the school offers an employment fair that connects the school with other companies." There are myriad opportunities in Dallas and Fort Worth, and "the school has established a very good rapport with businesses around the metroplex, who easily absorb fresh graduates!" Getting to know your business school instructors can also be a beneficial first step, as "professors also maintain a vast network of former students that proves helpful for current students when they begin their job hunt." An accounting graduate adds these positive comments: "I was heavily recruited by the Big 4 accounting firms, as well as small local firms, middle-market firms, and "industry" firms with accounting departments (which is every firm). The opportunity that I had with being placed with a company was extraordinary."
