School Says - Academics
Learning Beyond the Classroom Your business education extends beyond the classroom. Get Involved There are several clubs and organizations for business students. We encourage you to learn more about them and become involved in something that interests you. Faculty advisors to student organizations work with club members to arrange for visits to leading companies in the region, bring in guest speakers from industry, and offer seminars on careers in business and management. These are very valuable experiences that will enhance your time at NJIT and the School of Management. Get Connected SOM supports a student run e-community that gives students the opportunity to share ideas, socialize and get to know each other. The community is hosted on the Highlander Pipeline campus portal, and membership is restricted to business students and requires a valid UCID. Get Going There are many informal activities on campus that are an important part of student life. Since business students take courses in leadership, strategy, and performance management, they should do better in competitive sports. Why not put this hypothesis to the test and join one of our intramural sports teams?

School Says - Admissions
Visit us at: http://som.njit.edu/index.php The School of Management is proud to affirm its commitment to attracting a diverse student body. We believe that diversity enriches the educational process and represents an important advantage to our students. NJIT has one of the most diverse campuses in the United States, ranking among the nation's leading schools for graduating minority students into the management profession.

Students Say - Academics
The School of Management at the New Jersey Institute of Technology, "a solid engineering school," has "the edge in technology and related fields." This, convenience, and cost are students' main considerations when selecting the school, which offers full-time and parttime conventional MBAs as well as an Executive MBA. NJIT's standard MBA follows a 48-credit curriculum divided into three modules: Business Fundamentals (the 27-credit core curriculum): Managing Technology Knowledge and Innovation (12 credits); and a Concentration area (9 credits; concentrations are available in finance, marketing, and MIS. Students report, "The course work is very current and discussions are lively" and "fast-paced." One writes, "My academic experience has been great. My professors are great at challenging the students. They encourage continuous dialogue and will engage students in debate quite frequently. Case studies are very relevant, as are course books and other materials." Students are also bullish on the school's future. They admire the way this tech school is "venturing out. It will eventually establish a good management school." Some say it's already there, others that it's only a few improvements away. As one student puts it, "It's an underdog relative to other MBA programs. They are going though a lot of growing pains. However, key administration and faculty always go the extra mile to help out students. They are always willing to take student feedback and, more importantly, to implement it. Once the growth is managed it should be a solid program." Another adds, "The director is passionate about making it a great school for working people, and is an advocate." The school already has one great advantage: its proximity to major business and financial centers allows it to draw a stellar faculty. "If you're looking for an experienced economist, hedge-fund manager, corporate attorney, corporate accountant, well, name it, and NJIT has someone that has been there, done that, and will be more than willing to share their experience," students tell us.

Students Say - Admissions
All applications to the NJIT MBA program must, at minimum, include complete transcripts for all work done at the undergraduate level and an official score report for the GMAT (although applicants who already hold a master's or doctoral degree from an accredited university are exempt from the GMAT requirement). Students entering the program must also demonstrate competency in economics, finance, information systems, and quantitative methods; these requirements may be met with undergraduate work or through completion of pre-degree foundation courses. International students must also provide proof of adequate funds; those whose first language is not English are required to submit scores for the TOEFL exam. All students may provide supplemental application materials, including up to three letters of recommendation, a personal statement, and a description of work experience or a resume, if they wish. The school "is proud to affirm its commitment to attracting a diverse student body," observing "NJIT has one of the most diverse campuses in the United States."

Students Say - Campus Life
NJIT "is a commuter school, so education is emphasized more than activities," but "there are activities going on all the time" for those who seek them out. "You could walk into the student center or any other building and find students hanging out and networking," one student informs us, adding "There are activities every day on campus to keep students entertained, as well as special guest speakers and forums for students to gain a better perspective on select issues." Furthermore, "NJIT is in the middle of other universities, so life on campus is not limited to just this college." Full-time students occasionally have time for such activities, but part-timers generally do not; "Life is very hectic, especially if you are working and going to school at the same time," one explains. EMBA candidates appreciate how "breakfast and lunch are provided" by the school for their weekend sessions. "This may seem small, but it is a huge help," one notes. "Other than that, we come in and we leave." Campus facilities include "a well-equipped library with a good number of computers" and "a computer mall with internet and intranet access for all students." Students tell us that "One major area [for potential improvement] would be to upgrade the building, which is supposedly in the works to be completed within the next few years." NJIT's MBA programs draw a "very diverse" student body "from both public and private sectors. Some are married, some are married with children, some are single. Students have a good mix of ethnicity." One observes, "Everyone is independent and brings something new to the table for others to learn. You can talk about one topic and have two viewpoints presented, instead of a single narrow-minded thought." The EMBAs are "experienced professionals" whose ranks include, by one student's estimate, "43 percent manager level, 21.5 percent team lead, 21.5 percent contributor, and 14 percent vice-president level."

Students Say - Careers
NNJIT maintains a Career Resources Center to serve all undergraduates and graduates at the university. The center includes a library, self-assessment exams, and online job postings. Counseling services are also available. Students tell us that the NJIT alumni network is "a great resource for job referrals." Employers seeking MBAs during a recent NJIT Career Fair included the Air Force, Alcatel-Lucent, Apex Technology, Associated Press, AT&T, Broadridge Financial Solutions, Census 2010, CIGNA, Makro Technologies, Maquet Cardiovascular, McKesson, MMC Systems, New York State Department of Transportation, Public Service Enterprise Group, QPharma, Schindler Elevator Corporation, Softnice, Verizon, and Vonage.
