Students Say - Academics
Boasting "an excellent reputation for its business degree, especially in accounting," Ontario's Brock University offers "a great learning environment with many opportunities" to a youngish student body. Because it's a relatively new program, the Brock MBA is especially open to innovation; students praise the curriculum for "encouraging fresh ideas" and the faculty for its "innovative approaches to teaching." MBAs also love Brock's "small class sizes, which enable professors to recognize students' strengths and weaknesses and permit students to approach professors when they need help. It is a relaxed learning environment" in which "an atmosphere of trust between students and school personnel" prevails. Brock profs "are knowledgeable and well-respected in their fields" and "do an exceptional job of presenting the material in an attentiongrabbing style." Students appreciate how their instructors "always have time to talk outside of class and are extremely helpful." The Brock MBA includes a sequence of required courses and an option for specialization in one of four "streams": accounting, finance, human resource management, and marketing. Students may also opt for a general MBA. Students may choose to replace up to three of their specialization courses with independent research projects; such projects are subject to the approval of the dean and the MBA Committee. Students may attend on a fulltime or part-time basis. The full-time degree can be completed in two years; the part-time degree must be completed within six years. Part-timers who adhere to the suggested scheduleâ€"two courses during each of the Fall and Winter terms, one course during the Spring termâ€"can finish the program in four years.

Students Say - Admissions
Admission to the MBA program at Brock is based on five main criteria. The quality of one's undergraduate education is most important; Brock seeks students with at least a 3.0 undergraduate GPA. A minimum GMAT score of 550 is required, as are three letters of recommendation from professors and/or supervisors at work; a personal statement; and a resume. Applications are assessed holistically; strength in one area may be sufficient to compensate for weaknesses elsewhere, according to the school's website. Professional experience, though preferred, is not required. Those whose first language is not English must demonstrate English proficiency through the TOEFL (minimum score 620 paper-and-pencil test, 230 on the TOEFL (CBE) or 90 on the TOEFL (IBT), or 4.5 on the TWE; students with TOEFL scores between 570 and 620 may be admitted conditionally pending completion of an ELS program).

Students Say - Campus Life
Brock's student body "is extremely diverse," with "many international students [who arrive] through the International Student Program and through exchanges." Students also bring "a diverse set of experiences" to the program: "Some students come to the program with many years of experience, while others bring a more academic perspective to the program." Some feel the balance needs to shift in this area, reporting that "way too many students have no work experience and are straight out of undergrad." Everyone agrees that "some here, especially the part-time students, have great work experience and input to contribute." Brock's student-run Graduate Business Council "does an excellent job of giving us opportunities to connect outside of the classroom. They organize pub nights and socials as well as organize us to compete in business case competitions." Campus amenities include "state-of-the-art" gymnasiums, fitness centers, an Olympic size swimming pool, squash and tennis courts, outdoor fields, and a hiking trail system that runs through campus and beyond, leading to the Niagara Escarpment. Students report that school facilities "are great for athletics, food, and study areas." Hometown St. Catharines, located a mere 12 miles from Niagara Falls and just 70 miles from Toronto, "has a great lifestyle," with "tons of trendy nightclubs in St. Catharines and Niagara Falls." Students describe the overall vibe as "easy-going" with "not too much hustle and bustle," which they ascribe to "the nature of being located in St. Catharines." The city is accommodating enough that "many students spend a lot of time off campus."

Students Say - Careers
The Faculty of Business at Brock University maintains a Business Career Development Office to serve all undergraduates and graduates enrolled at the faculty. The office manages the Graduate Recruitment Program for MBA students; through this program, students have access to employer information sessions and on-campus interviews. ACareer Expo in the fall brings employers to campus for recruiting purposes. The office also offers resume review, interviewing and job search workshops, online job search tools, and assistance with international job placement. Brock offers a co-op MBA to students who are at the university for at least two semesters of study (beginning in the fall term) and who maintain at least a 75 average in the program. Co-op provides access to additional workshops, seminars, and a speaker series in addition to co-op placement. The program is open to international students.
