Our mission is to provide individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to successfully manage organizations in a dynamic environment by offering an integrated curriculum blending theoretical concepts with practical applications. Specifically, the MBA program seeks to develop in each graduate the capacity to:
1. Understand and adapt to the changing business, political, and social environments
2. Evaluate and respond to emerging threats and opportunities
3. Interact with and effectively lead diverse groups
4. Analyze and evaluate business operations and processes
5. Synthesize and apply cross-functional approaches to organizational issues
Integration and cross-functional approaches to organizational issues are embedded throughout the MBA core through close coordination of course content using the strategic planning process. Strategic management consists of the analysis of decisions and actions an organization undertakes to create shareholder value and sustain competitive advantages. Each course in the MBA program will enhance students' understanding of the strategic management process and assist students in acquiring the tools and skills needed to be a successful manager. Students Say - Academics
Efficiency and convenience define the University of Houstonâ"Victoria MBA. No matter what your previous preparation or current time restraints, you can get a quality education from this regional college. UHV offers two MBA program options: The Strategic MBA, which can be completed fulltime in 18 months or part-time over the course of three years, and the Global MBA, which provides a specialized curriculum for students interested in international business. UHV also offers a unique Bridge MBA, designed for international students with a three-year undergraduate degree. All of University of Houstonâ"Victoria's MBA programs can be completed entirely online, entirely in person, or through a combination of both classroom and distance delivery. For many, the "flexibility of taking classes online or face-to-face" is one of the school's major selling points. In fact, most students cite convenience as a key factor in their decision to attend the University of Houstonâ"Victoria, lauding the school's "ability to provide degree programs online that are appropriate for working adults." UHV students are serious about their education, and they insist that, even online, you will get a strong business education at University of Houstonâ"Victoria. With all the same requirements of a traditional MBA, the "Rigor of online program is excellent," and professors "maintain a focus on state-of-the-art practices." Expectations are high, and even remote students find that "Professors are accessible and demand the best from us." A current MBA candidate adds, "I don't feel I'm at a diploma millâ"they have done a good job in creating the program." The UHV online program also draws praises for being "very organized with their computer based learning systems," employing easy-to-use web technology. Still, students would like to see "more multimedia in online courses such as videos of professors explaining concepts." Designed with working professionals in mind, "Face-to-face classes are usually in the evening, [which] helps most employed students to attend classes after work." To add to the accessibility, classes are offered at "many different locations," including the Sugar Land campus and Cinco Ranch. Students who attend school at an auxiliary facility are a bit envious of the resources available at the larger university campus, saying, "Technology, such as computer lab equipment, is very old and way behind as compared to University of Houston Victoria main campus." Nonetheless, they are generally impressed by the remote student services, saying, "Administration is professional and well run" and "The student services staff is outstanding." No matter how or where you decide to take your courses, the school's curriculum includes comprehensive coursework in economics, management, finance, marketing, and leadership, with an "excellent entrepreneurial and economic development focus." In addition to the core curriculum, the Strategic MBA offers a "good amount of concentrations to choose from," including accounting, finance, general business, management, marketing, and international business. When it comes to the practical application of business principals, students are happy to report that UHV faculty has real-world business credentials, bringing "relevant discussions into the classroom." Acurrent student shares, "All the professors I have met so far (I am in my sixth course) are all seasoned professionals in their field."
Students Say - Admissions
Unconditional admission to any of University of Houston-Victoria's MBA programs is granted to students with a four-year undergraduate degree, an undergraduate GPA of 2.5 or higher, and GMAT scores of at least 450 or higher. Under some circumstances, a student may be admitted without taking the GMAT.
Students Say - Campus Life
Most UHV students take the majority of their classes online, and therefore, they have little interaction with the physical campus. However, most are "very happy with the service and effectiveness" of the MBA program, often saying they receive everything one would expect from a traditional graduate program. A student assures us, "I have discussed my courses with friends who are enrolled and taking MBA courses in a face-toface setting at another university, and the courses and experiences are very similar." Needless to say, the "Lack of face-to-face interaction limits the socializing between students." At the same time, most students live in the local region, and they occasionally make it to campus to meet with staff or administrators. An online student explains, "I don't really have much interaction on-campus. For the little I have, the campus has been really nice. Staff is really helpful and the buildings are laid out so that rooms are easy to find." Face-to-face students do make contact with the UHV campus, but echo the general sentiments of their online counterparts. An evening student shares, "Student only goes there to learn and leave after class⦠Our lives are too busy already to commit to socialize with others."
Students Say - Careers
While the UHV MBA program offers almost every benefit of a traditional, fulltime, in-person program, students admit that, "Career placement/resources are almost non-existent." Many feel the school should offer, "career support and job placements for graduates," such as job fairs or recruiting programs. A current student laments, "I feel that you really have to go out of your way to find a job from UHV career services." Students would also like to see "more alumni participation" with regards to networking and placement. While there aren't dedicated career services for the business school, students can use the campus Career Services center, where you can get job search assistance, as well as interview, resume, and cover letter help. However, the majority of students at UHV are already working and, therefore, not looking for a new job after graduation.
