Students Say - Academics
HEC Montréal offers "a strong MBA program based on practical issues" that emphasizes "a case-based teaching style" and has "real consulting opportunities incorporated into the curriculum." That, along with the school's "strong network in Quebec and excellent reputation," has made HEC Montréal one of the world's top MBA programs outside the United States. Students here may pursue an intensive one-year program in English or French or a three-year part-time program in French. All programs are housed in a "stateof- the-art facility" with "great libraries and study rooms." HEC Montreal's one-year program starts with two phases of core courses, followed by a specialization period and a concluding two-course sequence in corporate responsibility. The entire program evinces "a team focus," as "every person has to work in teams that are assigned and specially designed." "The whole program is very community- and network- oriented" and thus "forces students to realize how important it is to rely on others and to help team members in order to increase results and efficiency." Classes are delivered in six-week increments, which students describe as "very challenging." "It forces students and teachers to prepare more, and to be ready for every class," one student explains. Students appreciate how the program provides "so many resources invested to ensure the satisfaction of the student body," including "great programs like Campus Abroad," a three-week international program that includes company tours and meetings with business leaders. Part-timers here enjoy "a good flexible program that support full-time work and MBA courses using the same quality teachers that full-timers get." Students in all programs laud the curriculum's "strong emphasis on durable growth and business ethics. The curriculum is planted on solid foundations. We're definitely not going to be Master Bulls**t Artists." They also appreciate how "HEC Montréal is extremely well-connected and well-regarded by Quebec's business community." "Several professors act as consultants for Canadian or international companies that have operations in Quebec," a student says. "Also, there are regular meetings and presentations at school with business leaders, making the whole program very ‘real world.' No stale academic courses here!"

Students Say - Admissions
Admission to the MBA program at HEC Montreal is competitive; the school reports that it is "unable to accept all eligible candidates who apply" because class space is limited. Admissions decisions are based on academic record, professional experience (three years minimum required), standardized test scores (TAGE-MAGE or GMAT), letters of recommendation, interviews and candidates' career objectives. Applicants must provide the school with official transcripts for all post-secondary academic work, a curriculum vitae, and an official score report for standardized tests. The application includes supplementary questions, to be answered in essay form. Applicants to the English-language full-time intensive program must demonstrate English proficiency via testing (TOEFL, IELTS, or HEC's own HECTOPE) if their native language is not English. Non-native French speakers applying to the French-only program must complete the Test de franais international (an ETS-administered exam). Applicants who are not citizens of Canada must obtain a certificat d'acceptation du QuŽbec (C.A.Q.) and a document attesting to their right to reside in Canada (Student Authorization or Ministerial Permit). The school recommends that accepted students apply for these documents as soon as they receive confirmation of their admission to the program.

Students Say - Campus Life
The HEC Montréal campus is "a vibrant environment with people from all over the place" with "excellent resources at our disposal such as libraries, classrooms, and technology." As one student puts it, "Our school is just amazing: The design of it is sharp, they keep it real clean, and we have access to many facilities on campus: gym, bank machine, lounges. The food at the cafeteria is really good. We have access to a bunch of activities from dance classes to any organized sport activities (climbing, soccer, running club, volleyball, swimming). We are located next to restaurants, coffee shop, a subway entrance, all kind of stores and a lot of them are open 24/7." "The campus and buildings are beautiful and safe." The school is "located in the center of town," which "provides help for lodging and activities that are smartly connected to the school." HEC Montréal's one-year programs are "very intensive," so "students spend a lot of time with each other" and "life is very hectic." Classes generally run from early morning to late afternoon, after which students participate in team projects and assignment discussion, "then go home and prepare for the next class." All that cooperation promotes bonding, creating "a tight-knit community that enjoys many group activities, including weekly happy hours." Clubs and associations "encourage and generate a nice social life inside and around the school." "The MBA students' association is particularly good, even if it's difficult to connect full-time and part-time students."
