Students Say - Academics
Delaware Valley College is a small Pennsylvania school that offers an array of majors, many in agricultural and animal sciences. As one undergraduate puts it, "If a person wants to get into the farming business, [conduct] lab work, or [do] just about anything to do with working or training animals, this is the place to go. We have two barns of horses on campus, cows, sheep, llamas, a small animal facility that has mice, rats, guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, lizards, snakes, fish, and dogs and our own greenhouse on campus." Thanks to the school's "connections to the Philadelphia Zoo," and amenities like "barns right on campus," many undergraduates feel that one of the "greatest strengths of Delaware Valley is the hands-on experience that all majors get." In addition, "the required employment program lets students work in their field of study." Undergraduates extol professors who are "very knowledgeable and easily accessible," saying classes are "wonderfully taught." Coursework is challenging but manageable; "Some of the professors are very hard and expect a lot of work, but they are also very fair and are always available for out-of-class help."

Students Say - Campus Life
At DelVal, the "small population allows for more student involvement in every aspect of collegiate life." In addition to classes, "Most students have jobs and hobbies" and, on the weekends, "There are many events held on campus like dances, karaoke nights, comedians, bingo, and game nights that are open to the whole campus." In addition, "There is a lot of open space for games of football, ultimate Frisbee, catch, and soccer." People "watch movies, go down to the barns, go to the gym, or just hang out" in their spare time. In addition, the school provides "many opportunities for students to take trips off-campus," and hometown Doylestown "is a very interesting place to visit and walk around in for a day." "People mostly go home on the weekends," so "sometimes it seems like the campus is empty." Since the campus empties out on Fridays, "Thursdays are a very popular night to socialize with friends." On Thirsty Thursdays, "most of the campus goes out and parties and drinks." If you don't live in the area but still want to take a weekend excursion, "the Septa [Philadelphia and the surrounding region's rail system] can take him or her right into Philly."

Students Say - Student Body
Because of DelVal's focus on agricultural and animal sciences, the school attracts many "people who have spent most of their lives living on a farm." However, students report that there are also a lot of students from urban backgrounds here, too-specifically, many students hail "from the city of Philadelphia." The combination of urban and rural can be unique: "To sum up, students here can differentiate a Jersey cow from a Brown Swiss, then give directions to a hot spot in Philly." While "most students are either into farming or animals (or both)," the school's "growing business department and an awesome athletics teams," do add to the student diversity. Concerning ethnic diversity, students report a "very homogenous student body" that is "predominantly white" and "conservative." While "It's easy to meet people and make friends," "cliques tend to form easily." One undergrad observes: "The cliques are obvious: There are the southern farmers, the northern farmers, the future vets, the horse girls, and everyone else who is here to play football."
