When L.G. Crow founded Thrifty Rent-A-Car System Inc. in 1950 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the company rented Volkswagen Beetles for $6 a day. Thirty years later, Thrifty operates in 70 countries and territories from more than 1,000 locations. It has been a part of the Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group since 1997. In 1999, the company launched Thrifty Car Sales, a franchised retail used-car sales network.
