Adams Brothers secures deal to provide fruit and veggies to military

Birmingham's Adams Brothers Produce Co. Inc. recently won a $7.6 million contract to provide fresh fruit and vegetables to the military.

The contract, which has a fixed price with economic adjustments, was solicited by the Defense Supply Center in Philadelphia for use by the U.S. Army, Air Force, Marine Corps and Department of Agriculture.

Adams Brothers, a company formed in downtown Birmingham in 1903, was selected from two bids. The federal contract ends Oct. 10, 2009.

The produce company provides products to customers in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee.
