Hawaii Superferry plans second Maui trip

Hawaii Superferry will add a second trip between Oahu and Maui beginning May 9.

The afternoon trip will run Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Superferry President and CEO John Garibaldi said the second trip will benefit commercial customers who want more flexibility in reaching markets.

The Superferry currently departs Honolulu at 6:30 a.m. daily and arrives in Kahului at 9:30 a.m. It leaves Kahului at 11 a.m. and arrives back in Honolulu at 2 p.m.

If approved by the state Public Utilities Commission, the second voyage will leave Honolulu at 3:30 p.m. and arrive in Kahului at 7 p.m. It will leave Kahului at 8 p.m. and return to Honolulu at 11 p.m.

Garibaldi said advanced bookings have "been very strong" since resumption of ferry service March 27.

Superferry promotional fares currently are $39 for one-way passenger fares and $55 for one-way passenger vehicle fares traveling through June 5.
