Classic Industries named national SBA contractor of the year

Richard J. Lara, president of Classic Industries Inc., was named National Small Business Prime Contractor of the Year on Wednesday by the U.S. Small Business Administration.

Based in Doña Ana, N.M., Classic Industries is a general contractor and contruction management firm specializing in commercial and residential projects. A small disadvantaged and 8(a) certified business, the contracting firm has fulfilled more than 50 U.S. Department of Defense construction contracts.

The award was announced at a luncheon held at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Washington, D.C., as part of National Small Business Week.

"It is this kind of entrepreneurship on the part of small businesses and leadership by corporate and government purchasers that helped small businesses secure more than $78 billion in federal contracts for goods and services last year, helping them grow, create jobs and fuel the nation's economy," said SBA Administrator Steve Preston.

The Small Business Prime Contractor award recognizes small businesses that have provided the government and industry with outstanding goods and services either as prime contractors.
