Passenger traffic rises again at BHM

After reporting a strong 9 percent jump in passengers in February, Birmingham International Airport reported a 3 percent increase in passengers in March over the same month last year.

However, airlines reported mixed results, with Delta losing the most traffic, reporting a 12 percent drop in passengers to 56,818 this March from 64,570 last year.

US Airways also saw a drop of 5.8 percent in March to 27,175 passengers from 28,837 the same period. It was an improvement over the 13.6 percent drop in February.

Southwest reported an increase of 14.5 percent in March, with 109,375 passengers passing through its gates from 95,534 the previous March. Southwest passenger traffic grew 31.5 percent in February.

The airport as a whole welcomed 8,080 more passengers in March than the same month last year, with a total of 274,711 customers.
