Union officials have extended contract talks through the weekend with General Motors Corp., avoiding for now a strike at GM's Fairfax Assembly Plant.
Jeff Manning, president of United Auto Workers Local 31, said Friday that "there has been a little bit of progress made in the past couple hours."
The key points of disagreement are job security and seniority, he said.

Union employees at the Fairfax plant warned General Motors (NYSE: GM) in a letter April 18that a strike was imminent unless progress was made toward getting a new contract. The prior contract expired in September.
Local 31 has about 2,600 members.
The Fairfax Assembly Plant ranks No. 15 on the Kansas City Business Journal's list area private-sector employers, with 2,700 employees. The plant makes the Chevy Malibu and Saturn Aura, and hybrid versions of each.
