RCS Transportation laying off nearly 200 workers

RCS Transportation LLC, a Shelbyville-based company that loads vehicles onto rail cars, plans to lay off 191 workers in Louisville next month.

The layoffs will occur at RCS's facility at 11900 Westport Road by the end of May, according to a notice from the Kentucky Office of Employment and Training.

RCS also operates facilities at 5114 Crittenden Drive and 2002 Fern Valley Road.

Bruce Nethery, the company's CEO, did not return multiple calls to his office.

The workers at the Westport Road facility are represented by Teamsters Local 89, according to the notice from the state. Calls to the union local's president, Fred Zuckerman, also were not returned.
