GSO, HP merchants associations consider merger

Two local merchants association are considering a merger that would fold the High Point organization into Greensboro.

A special meeting notice was sent out notifying members of May 13 meeting that would consider the merger. According to the announcement, the High Point Merchants Association would merge into the Greater Greensboro Merchants Association, leaving the Greensboro group as the surviving entity.

It also states that the bylaws of the Greensboro group would remain the same, while two representatives from the High Point community will join the GMA's board of directors. Greensboro's officers would remain the same under the deal.

High Point members would be merged into the GMA, the notice said, with dues adjusting one year after the merger.

The meetings for the associations will be held May 13, where members will vote on the proposal.

According to the GMA's Web site, it has about 1,500 members. HPMA has about 200.
