St. Vincent's East wants to spend $6 million to build an 80-bed psychiatric clinic on its campus, according to state filings.

The 282-bed hospital located between Center Point and Trussville filed a letter of intent with the State Health Planning and Development Agency on April 21 announcing its intentions of adding inpatient psychiatric services. St. Vincent's projects construction to cost $4.5 million and major medical equipment to cost $1.5 million. First year annual operating expenses are expected to be $8.4 million state filings show.

St. Vincent's East anticipates filing a Certificate of Need application within the next 60 days. A Certificate of Need is required when a health care facility proposes expansion, relocation, additional services or an increase in beds.
