Sun to cut up to 2,500 jobs

Faced by U.S. economic weakness and order delays from some customers, Sun Microsystems Inc. will cut from 1,500 to 2,500 jobs, the company's chief financial officer said Thursday.

Mike Lehman also said the company expects a charge of $130 million to $220 million in the fourth quarter in connection with the job cuts.

Lehman said the move would take $100 million to $150 million off Sun's yearly operating expense total.
