Point Park University on Tuesday unveiled an ambitious $210 million plan to overhaul its Downtown Pittsburgh campus.

University president Paul Hennigan unveiled the Academic Village plan with the help of drawings by WTW Architects. It calls for a park, a student center and significant improvements to the Wood Street-Boulevard of the Allies corridor.

As part of the second phase of the plan, the University will be moving its Pittsburgh Playhouse from South Oakland to Forbes Avenue. Plans call for three theaters, with a total of 850 seats, and a residence tower for students on Fourth Avenue.

Hennigan said the university would invest $73 million in the project, and plans a capital campaign to raise $103 million. He said discussions are under way to bring in another $34 million through a public-private partnership. The project is slated to begin next year, and the timeline calls for completion by 2015.
