Valero is the nation's best big company

Valero Energy Corp. is the No. 1 Best Big Company to Work for in America, according to Fortune Magazine.
Out of 33 companies both listed on the Best Companies to Work and the Fortune 100 list, Fortune placed San Antonio-based Valero (NYSE: VLO) on the top.
The editors of Valero picked the company because it was impressed with the fact that the company makes its corporate jet available to employees facing medical emergencies and covers 100 percent of health insurance premiums.

Valero has 17,488 U.S. employees and its most common salaried job is the store manager. The company pays on average $97,730 in that position.
Valero also is the largest oil refiner in North America.
Rounding out the top five 'Best Big' companies are Goldman Sachs Group (NYSE: GS) in New York, Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ: MSFT) in Redmond, Wash.; FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) in Memphis and Cisco Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: CSCO) in San Jose, Calif.
