Rambus Inc. on Friday named director Bruce Dunlevie chairman of the board.

The Los Altos-based technology licensing company, which specializes in high-speed memory architectures, said Dunlevie has been on the board since the company was founded in 1990.

"Bruce is a recognized leader with years of experience working closely with the Rambus team," said Harold Hughes, president and chief executive of Rambus. "With his guidance, we'll continue building our world-class portfolio of products and patented innovations that drive great value for our customers and stockholders."

Dunlevie has been a general partner of Menlo Park-based Benchmark Capital since May 1995.

In April Rambus (NASDAQ:RMBS) said chairman Kevin Kennedy was stepping down for personal reasons.

Kennedy had been a director of the company since 2003, and chairman since June 2006.
