UT receives $15M gift from Houston lawyer

Houston attorney Joe Jamail donated $15 million to fund University of Texas at Austin's freshman advising center, nursing school and law school.

According to the university, $10 million will go to recruit and retain faculty at the UT law school.

The nursing school will receive about $2.5 million to recruit and retain faculty, and establish a fellowship for students seeking doctoral degrees.

The remaining $2.5 million will be used to endow and support a freshman advising center.

Jamail has given generously to UT in the past. The Joseph D. Jamail Jr. Pavillion at the law school and the Joe Jamail Field at the Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium are named in his honor. Additionally, the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center is named for him and his wife.
