The DocuVault companies have been acquired by Boston's Iron Mountain Inc. for an undisclosed amount.

The purchase expands Iron Mountain's presence in Colorado.

Denver-based DocuVault Group LLLP is the parent company of five records management firms. DocuVault is in the records management and information destruction business and also provides records storage, secure shredding and data backup services.

Founded in 1997, DocuVault operates DocuVault Colorado LLC, DocuVault Secure Shredding LLC, DocuVault Data Security LLC, DocuVault Management LLC and DocuVault Delaware Valley LLC.

Iron Mountain, founded in 1951, employs more than 10,500 workers. Last year, the company completed several acquisitions, including the purchase of Pennsylvania-based digital media archiving specialists Xepa Digital LLP and Accutrac Software Inc., a California-based provider of records-management software and professional services. Both deals were for undisclosed amounts. It also bought California-based Stratify Inc. for $158 million.

During 2007, Iron Mountain reported a $153 million net income on revenue of $2.7 billion.

DocuValt founder Bowen Banbury originally started the company as a way to fill two windowless floors of the Barclay Tower at 16th and Larimer streets in downtown Denver.
