Cities that ranked below Austin were Las Vegas, Sacramento and San Diego with 10 percent of their residents shopping online. Nationally, 6 percent of consumers are deemed digital savvy by Scarborough.
Scarborough researchers say the consumers they found in Austin would be more likely to own a luxury vehicle, spend $500 on business attire in the past year and spend more than $500 online.
"The most digitally savvy markets are known for leading the nation in a variety of hi-tech behaviors," says Gary Meo, senior vice president of print and digital media services. "They also typically have the presence of major universities and represent established tech corridors in the U.S."
