Median home prices fall in Colorado

The median price for existing single-family homes in the Denver area is down by 6.6 percent in the first quarter, the National Association of Realtors said Tuesday.

The report by the industry group said 100 of the 149 metro areas showed price declines from a year earlier, including the three communities in Colorado covered in the report.

On average, the median price of homes in the United States was off by 7.7 percent from last year, to $196,300.

In the Denver-Aurora metropolitan statistical area -- which covers 10 counties including Denver, Jefferson, Adams, Arapahoe, Broomfield and Douglas -- the price fell to $223,500.

The median price declined by 4 percent in the Boulder area, to $355,700. In Colorado Springs, the price was off by 1.6 percent, to $208,900.

Across the state, the price was down 8.4 percent, to $117,200.

The largest increase in the United States was 11.8 percent in the Binghamton, N.Y., area.
